I was wondering what I might do without a badge. I am not asking because I was too cheap to buy a badge. I had a military obligation. I was originally scheduled to begin a tour of duty in Afghanistan sometime this weekend and was thus unable to make plans. The date and time for my unit’s departure have been narrowed down and I now find that I may be able to attend some of Fridays and/or Saturdays events. Will I be able to see my daughter at the Academy without a badge? Anyone have a badge they no longer need?

I believe you will be able to see your daughter. I think the only thing the badge really get us into is the meals and beat retreat. I could really be wrong on this. I would, if I were you contact the ladies on the parents page and explain the situation- I'm sure that someone somewhere may not be attending that has tickets for some reason or another. Glad that you are going to be able to see your daughter

I was told before the badges officially went on sale was that you could see your DD/DS but could not go under the tents if it rained, eat or the Beat Retreat. You can still go to her class if she gets permission from her teachers ahead of time. You can do everything except eat and shelter, meaning you will not be able to eat with your DD since that is in the price of the badge.

I second contacting one of the members of the planning group; however, even if you are unable to secure a badge you will still be able to spend plenty of time with your daughter.

If it rains you can seek shelter on Zero Deck or under the umbrella you bring (you are bringing one, right :) ) or in the car. Friday will probably be the toughest if she has Beat Retreat obligations. Don't fret though, you'll be fine.

(If unable to secure a badge stop off at Deli On The Green on your way to campus and grab a great sandwich to bring with for any meals you may need)

By all means come! You will see your daughter, you can go to the football game, you can go to classes, and if they won't let you in a tent come down and make yourself at home in the Yocum Sailing Center at the Waterfront- where we don't need no stinkin' badges! As for food, just pick up sandwiches and snacks at Deli on the Green on Middle Neck Road. Have a great weekend.

Yocum is always a welcoming haven for mids and parents alike thanks to our great waterfront staff. But if your daughter is involved in the Beat Retreat, by all means try to get a ticket. It is not to be missed. I would echo kp 2001 and reach out to those in charge. If there is one thing that most kpers are good at, it's flexibility and I'm sure Mary Jane will do her best to accommodate you given the circumstances.

I am so glad someone started this thread. We have a similar situation with our daughter who had a commitment for the weekend and at the last minute (after it was too late to buy another badge) her schedule changed so she will be able to attend on Saturday.

We figured the football game would not be a problem and she is perfectly willing to hang out on her own while we have lunch with DS but we weren't sure exactly where a 21 year old sister could "hang out" and not be underfoot with the organized festivities (although there have been rumors that sisters tend to be offered a great deal of hospitality by other students).

Very happy to hear the tip about the deli and that she can probably find refuge at the sailing center. I think that's our new plan. Deepsea, can we bring you anything from the deli?

Yes, there will likely be plenty of midshipmen who will be more than willing to be a "host" to your daughter

They don't call it "sister's weekend" for nothing :yllol:

Wasn't there a thread about 'where to find Ring Dance dates' earlier? It all starts here.

Thanks for the offer - I'll be heading up to Gloucester, MA with our sailors for the Gloucester Schooner Race Saturday morning, so I won't be around on Saturday, but by all mean make yourself at home in Yocum, and enjoy the weekend.

I bought the weekend badge but will be unable to attend. Is it possible to transfer the badge to someone else? If so I would be willing. I am so sad that I cannot make it as this is 1/C year and I have been every year. It is a weekend of great pride. Enjoy it everyone!
