For those of you who might have cadets at LDAC this summer, you might not be aware that they have set up a Facebook as well as a website.
It is very well done and helps relatives and friends stay informed and catch occasional glimplses of their cadet:smile:

    LDAC Link

Thanks for the LDAC link to this impressive array of information.

I wonder if it's a little much, however, particularly the live streaming of APFT activities and small group training drills. Could the addition of this new medium interfere with focus on the task at hand? I suppose I might see it differently in a couple of years when I'm eager to catch even a fleeting glimpse of Dwarf Star.

By the way, when I told him a post on the LDAC Facebook bulletin board had stated the top male APFT score so far to be 374, it inspired him to go out and do 500 pushups and a similarly scary number of situps.

re: APFT score of 374 at LDAC --

I don't get that. I thought the top score possible is 300, composed of 100 pts. for each of sit-up, push-up, 2 mile run.

How does that work at LDAC?

They use an extended scoring table for 'over max'
    which used to be;
Pushups = +1 point per extra over max
Situps = +1 point per extra over max
Run = +1 point per 6 seconds under max time

They still do have extended scores.

As long as you max out each of the three areas you will get extra points for whatever you do over the max score count.

Most battalions use the extended scores.

My son told me that they only use the the max of 300 for the OML, I can't be positive about this though.

    One link

Have looked at this link before, not sure it's official:

    http://550cord.com/products/info.asp?ProductID=7

About 100 situps, 100 pushups and 11:00 2 mile run.

Haven't slept knowing that today is DS's APFT. This is the biggest anxiety for him. Once he gets past this, life will be better!

The LDAC facebook pages are great, but feel sorry for officers that have to answer all those questions!! My DS said to me on his way out the door: "Do not post on LDAC facebook and NO Cookies...Love ya Mom!"

So, I sit and watch the LDAC page and am not baking cookies..... Geez, what's a mom to do?

A mom logs onto SAF and looks for someone to talk to....:thumb: Hope his day is amazing - the run easy, the sits/pushs fast and smooth and of course in perfect form:smile: My DS doesn't even understand why I'm still coming here and reading/posting -- the LDAC facebook page has been forbidden to me too:rolleyes: He can only dream I'd bake cookies, unless the break and bakes count:biggrin: Stay busy!

Thanks OHIO. At 930am central time, I was at a job interview minding my own business, in deep discussions not paying attention to the time, and I started sweating profusely.... think that's when he started the test...he's alpha platoon, and Bravo platoon started at 1130 central.......

thought I cut that umbilical cord 21 years ago!!!!

I am reading your posts and thanking God for a daughter who let's me post on HER facebook
Anyway, they cannot see what you are posting on the LDAC FB page, so post away!

Cookies are not a great idea anyway, they are not allowed to carry food around, and depending on who is leading their platoon, they can either eat the food on the spot, share it, or get it confiscated until graduation

courage, we will get through this! This part is easy!!!

I always think I'm ready for these moments. Heck, I just survived Plebe year (ha ha DS would get a kick out of that) at USNA. Thought that having older DS gone to LDAC would be a piece of cake...not the case.

Oh, DS lets me post on his facebook, but doesn't want any posts on the LDAC facebook..."you never know who might be reading". Was thinking of getting a new email address.....then a new facebook identity, and then I could post.!!

You're my kinda of momma..."thinking of getting a new email address...":yllol: Yep, I post on his (and his sisters' FB pages) but he doesn't want my name popping up on ANY military FB pages since our last name is rather unique, but your idea of new identity has merit:biggrin:

Oh, and is the cord ever really cut?????? Being a parent means you're strong enough to let your heart walk around outside your body and control:smile: Hope you hear from him soon that all went well.

LDAC FB page states we can email to find out if they passed, but DS would kill me if I did that. I gave him a self addressed stamped postcard when he left and told him when he passed apft to draw a happy face and drop it in the mailbox.

    The mailbox vigil has begun!

And this is how psycho I have become...... When younger DS was at Plebe Summer my husband and I received a USNA silicone bracelet at the picnic. We wore it until Parent Plebe Weekend. And would touch bracelets to each other when we walked by....I know...lame.

Well, how can I be a good mom if I don't have an Operation Warrior Forge bracelet before the APFT test? So I found a company to overnight me custom bracelets and now I can semi relax knowing I have done everything I can for my DS....and his APFT score.....

I know, I know, I should be committed....

All in the same boat. It is good to know i am not alone, i miss my daughter like crazy. In fact i feel like having a good cry.... But i should not, this is a piece of cake. Some of my friends here have lost a son in combat in February. But still... maybe the reason why we are all so emotional, is because we know someday (very soon) they will deploy, and this is a foretaste of what it will feel like...

Just received 1st letter from DS....passed the APFT. Whew!!! I can sleep.:thumb:

Daughter is back for LDAC. She had a trememdous time! She was in 5th reg, Alpha company, 2nd platoon.
It was awesome being able to see the pictures, know what they were doing every day and read some really interesting articles posted on the Warrior Forge website.
It helps to give them all the support they need when we understand firsthand what is going on, otherwise it is a very vague concept. When she shared her experience, i had some clues of what she was talking about and could relate better.
On a funnier note: today she told me about the giant anthills in the the woods and how she fell in one. Apparently those ants are nasty!!!
