Few questions...

How exactly does the this program work? Can you be in DEP or do I have to go through Basic Training to be eligible?

Also is it possible to send in my ACT scores then later update my file with SAT scores, it's been awhile since I last took the ACT and think I can improve and become a bit more competitive.

Finally, does anyone know exactly how many people got in to the class of 16 with this program, because I'm told that a lot of these slots go unfilled and I just find that hard to believe since it is a great opportunity?

You have to complete basic training and enter technical training, at tech school you are eligible to try, but you have to get your squadron commander's nomination and it is the least of your worries at tech school.
I don't really know how to answer your 2nd question, besides yeah you can.
And the last question from what I understand, is there were no direct entries, the only prior enlisted who got in, were from the prep school.
Hope that helped.

Thank you for your quick response. Based on your response this is going to interesting to say the least, I have a VERY small window of opportunity since I am turning 22 this January.

My son was given a Prep school appointment through the LEAD program. There were no direct entries into the AFA this year. 52 priors in processed two weeks ago at the Prep school.

My son waited until he arrived at his first duty assignment before he applied. His tech school was eight months long. He's been in the service about 19 months.

Good luck as you start this process.
