Have any active duty/guard or reserve airmen received an appointment yet?

I went on TDY to the Academy a few months ago as an Airman, and this is what they told me.

Last year they informed their enlisted Airmen of their acceptance in January. A handful of them ended up either slacking off work or got into trouble of some sort and had their appointments taken away. This year they decided to wait until March/April/May so this issue doesn't happen again.

I can't remember which SNCO or Officer told me this, I just remember hearing it. And it makes sense.

Im actually still in the process of completeing my "KIT". I've already submitted by 1786/CC Letter of Recc. but the KIT is the time consuming part of the process. Are you already through with everything and just waiting to hear back from the admissions office?

Dagger I was at the DVP visit back in september as well. When I was out there one of the Lts told me that if we were out there for the DVP that we'd have a slot there next year.

The Lts can not guarantee you a spot there for next year. What they were most likely trying to say was that you and the other airmen on the DVP are very likely to receive appointments.

I mean, they spent around $1k to bring us out there. Obviously they were trying to motivate us to attend.

Message me your name. I probably shook hands with you.

Taking the SATs for the 5th time tomorrow. Anybody else doing the same?

Hi Steve,

any updates on LEAD appointments? i.e., are you aware of any LEAD applicants that have been notified? I have read that none will be notified until mid-March (or later) this year, with various reasons given, but my DS was told he should hear in February. Was he possibly misinformed?

I wonder if a bunch of Airmen applied this year and how competitive the applications are looking. I'm finished w/ the KIT and all that good stuff, just waiting for the go/no-go. Waaaaay too impatient right now LOL

Rob, I have read that last year (class of '15) was the first time all the available LEAD slots were filled (85 AD/85 Res-NG). Word is the CSAF is pushing the program and they are expecting over 200 applicants and plan to fill all slots again for the Class of 2016. Can anyone with direct knowledge corroborate, please?

The CSAF IS pushing this program; has been for several years, but the word is finally getting out to the force!!!

Will they fill all the slots this year? I don't know, and at the last meeting (at USAFA with the RRS folks) I was at, "they" didn't know either. BUT...the push is ON!!! And if we can fill all those slots...that'd be OUTSTANDING!!! :thumb:

I have to admit I'm pretty nervous. Felt reassured after the dvp, but this waiting game has been pretty tough.

Don't worry everybody, I'm extremely nervous as well, I wish they had more slots or at least I wish they wouldn't open up a KIT for every airmen who does the pre cand. quest. online...I thought I was special until I found out that they open up a KIT for every airman who is interested...I don't think I'll get a slot honestly but it was worth all the time/effort to finish that KIT lol

Honestly as long as you are willing to put down that you would be willing to go to the prep school, and are young enough to do so, you should be in a good position to get to the hill.

I know competition has picked up a lot since my commander put in my package (I'm a p-schooler now in 2013), but keep your chins up and be patient. Before you know it that letter will come in and your name will be called at the next hail and farewell.

One can only dream.

It's whatever, I get in, great, if not, oh well. I have 50 million other options I'll pursue if things don't go as planned.

I'm kidding, if I'm rejected I'll spend the next six months crying myself to sleep.

Prior Preppie

Hey guys! I used this forum when I was applying last year and it helps out a lot. If any of you have questions feel free to ask. It defintely has been a ride here but completely worth it. I will say I wasnt informed about my acceptance until two weeks before I had to be here. The waiting is the hardest part so dont feel bad when you see other people get notices sooner. Any questions ask here or email me which is easier:

I posted this on the US Air Force Academy (Admissions) Facebook page:

Any word on when LEAD applicants might begin to be notified? I know several regular applicants with principal nominations have been offered appointments already, but I understand the LEAD applicants have a separate Board?

Here is the response:

...the majority of LEAD applicants will hear back after March 1st.

This is about as straight from the horse's mouth as I can come up with. Looks like we all have a long wait ahead of us.

hopefully i'll hear word march 2nd. according to the airmen i talked to at the dvp at usafa, your commander will know before you do.

Not necessarily! If we do find out 2 March, that's less than 30 days!!!
