I am a rising Senior. I am an Honors Student 9 Season Varsity Runner, All State Musician, NHS and World Language HS, along with many other extra curriculum activities, and work in the summer. I am having trouble finding Leadership Opportunities. Any advice?

Captainship in Cross Country, becoming a leader in a club/band, or something like that. Boy's State would have helped but that is no longer an opportunity.

Thank you. My XC/Track teams do not have "Captains"...the Seniors share the responsibility in motiviating and inspiring the team. It is a positive experience for both the seniors and underclassman.

If you can't find any clubs you like or other activities you want to join, you can always start something - a new club, a volunteer organization, etc. Organize concerts for retirement communities, start a blood drive, whatever fills a need.

Does your school have any clubs? Key Club, for example, sponsored by Kiwanis, usually is a pretty busy place and a good place to get leadership experience. Is there a tutoring program for underclassmen or elementary or junior high students? You don't have to be designated as a team captain to be a leader on a sports team; work with one of the team coaches to mentor some of the newer members of the team, for example. Consider also your church or other community organization for leadership opportunities. Some local youths have started drives in support of armed forces units that are deploying, deployed, or returning. Search the local paper or talk with members of local service clubs for projects they may be interested in sponsoring.

Thank you for the suggestions. I am already a member of the InterAct Club as well as the Key Club; I just have not "led" any of the programs or activities. I will talk further with my advisors. Thank you for the insight.
