Is being elected as class secretary/treasurer seen as a valuable leadership position? I know president or vice president would be better, but this is still student government.

Secretary/treasurer does count towards leadership. I don't know if it is given less weight than president or vice president. Admissions tends to keep that kind of knowledge to themselves.

It won't be a leadership position. Leadership requires you to have subordinates so unless you get some assistants it won't help in that department. It will still help overall though so stick with it.

I served as the secretary of one of the out of school service clubs that I am a part of and admissions counted it as a leadership role. Every bit helps especially since those roles ARE leadership.

I agree, you were elected to the position, this shows leadership amongst your peers. This will help.

I feel I should reply to confirm that "having subordinates" is not the only thing that shows leadership....my son was a lifeguard and umped little league baseball games...leadership comes in many forms...participate in activities that you enjoy -- everything else will follow.

Serving as a officer of any club counts as leadership. You don't have to be President or VP.
Being elected by the student body to serve as an officer in student government shows that you are a leader amongst your peers. Congratulations!

There are many ways to show leadership and many different opportunities to do so.
