My son was awarded an AROTC scholarship on Friday and is awaiting his physical. He has a left varicocele (basically varicose veins in privates area for those who don't know what it is : approximately 1 in 7 men have it I'm told) which is a discomfort when running long distances. DODMERB considers it a DQ if it is symptomatic.

My questions: 1. We plan on getting this taken care of via embolization or varicocelectomy, should we do this PRIOR to DODMERB physical or wait until after?
2. If this is rectified via a procedure, will it be waiverable?

3. There was a gentleman Named Larry Mullen, I think, who was a great contact for these types of questions. Is he still around, or has someone taken his place?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Larry Mullen isn't on this forum any more -- in his place, DODMERB has instituted a "help-line" that -- based on other posters -- appears to be quite helpful.

Thanks usna1985 - I will get number off of DODMERB website ?
