My son was awarded an AROTC scholarship on Friday and is awaiting his physical. He has a left varicocele (basically varicose veins in privates area for those who don't know what it is : approximately 1 in 7 men have it I'm told) which is a discomfort when running long distances. DODMERB considers it a DQ if it is symptomatic.
My questions: 1. We plan on getting this taken care of via embolization or varicocelectomy, should we do this PRIOR to DODMERB physical or wait until after?
2. If this is rectified via a procedure, will it be waiverable?
3. There was a gentleman Named Larry Mullen, I think, who was a great contact for these types of questions. Is he still around, or has someone taken his place?
Thank you in advance for your help.
