Let the Ratline begin!

Matriculation was a great experience for the whole family

Started the day with the NROTC unit where my DS sign all of his commitment papers. Met with Marine Col. Looney and was very impressed with his team, a mix of Navy and Marine Officers. We went through the process without any hitches, DS signed the Matriculation Book, moved in and then attended Gen Peay's briefing with the VMI Leadership. My DS then marched off with his company to start his training. We will see him in a couple of weeks at New Market.:thumb:

It will go *very* fast. My DS is a 1st this year (with rank and Academic Stars and Institute Honors, he says proudly) and it just seems like yesterday that we went through that matriculation process. Best of luck to your DS.

Thanks for the good wishes, and congratulations to your DS

I am stalking the Rats on Social Media and I have been lucky to see my rat in a couple of video's and photos. He appears to be focused and calm. I did hear that one Rat 'rang the bell' today. The rat class is now at 499.

Typically, they lose around 20 during Hell Week alone.

I'm sure they have lost quite a few more than one- typically around 30 - I think that was what finally bolted last year. Good luck and don't quit!!

Missed DS call home

Missed DS call home :( he left a hoarse message that he is good. Some parents have received a mixed of messages from loving it, to looking to move their NROTC Scholarship to another school. Some have reported injuries, and illnesses that have sidelined them.

From a historical look; Rat to Graduation, the class will go from 500 to 300 and 150 will commission with about 75 of those coming in with a 4-year scholarship (my estimate). The NROTC unit started with 12 Navy and 6 Marine, 4-year Scholarships.

They are climbing House Mountain today, and the execute the Crucible on Sunday.
