Hello,
I just have a question about when I could receive an LOA. My application is complete and has been complete for over two weeks now. My status on the application website says "Candidate". When does the review board meet and how likely would it be I would receive an LOA since my application is already complete? Thanks.

LOA's are the exception, not the rule. Very few are given out. Personally, I would not even think about getting one. We're talking a very small percentage of appointments will originate as an LOA.

FWIW: LOA's are similar to civilian colleges offering "Early Admissions". It's used as a tool to entice an applicant to accept the air force academy, and not look at other schools. In other words, you're the applicant that is quite obvious to the academy that you're in the very top percentage of applicants, and they know this from decades of experience in reviewing applications and offering appointments. For What it's worth, and individual who receives an LOA and then appointment; and an individual who receives an appointment without first receiving an LOA; are BOTH CALLED CADET when they enter Basic Cadet training.

But, to answer your question; the review boards have started meeting. You could potentially receive an LOA at any time from now until usually nominations are totally complete. (Around January). Again, realize, LOA's are the EXCEPTION, not the rule. Best of luck to you.

Okay thanks I appreciate your input. I only ask because my friend applied to the Naval Academy and we have similar grades/extracurricular/test scores and he just received an LOA, so I was just getting anxious (and somewhat jealous lol) .

Remember that the academies are different and they have different ways of doing things with different expectations and different timelines. Be glad your application is complete, be patient and enjoy the ride:thumb:.

Here was our wild situation: one son received LOA in October, one son never got one! Both entered together on I-Day and no one ever asked either one about it.

It is reassuring to students and parents, but frankly, Christcorp is correct: most kids do not get an LOA.

You could possibly receive an LOA anytime now. I just received mine last Tuesday, and literally did a little dance. It was an awesome feeling. Now I'm just waiting to hear about a nomination. Good luck though!
