Letter of Recommendation Error

So I had my TRiO counselor (who is hundreds of miles away from me) send West Point a letter of recommendation on my behalf. He also faxed me a copy of the letter after he sent it. Upon reading it, I noticed that one sentence said "Air Force Academy" instead of Military Academy. Apparently, he had taken the letter he wrote me for USAFA and just changed "Air Force" to "Military/Army." He missed one, though. Of course, it was too late to do anything about it after I realized it. This makes me look so ignorant because I didn't proofread it enough before it sent, and I'm worried that this is going to come back to bite me when the admissions board reads it (I hear it's insulting to colleges when other colleges are mentioned in essays/letters).

Is there a way I can get admissions to disregard the first letter and then I can upload a revised copy of it later? And how much will this affect me? I realize this is entirely my fault, and I accept full responsibility for this, so please don't scold me. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

While I can't say for certainty, I assume they'll understand. It's not like you're the one who made the mistake. I'm sure 50% of their cadets are not just applying to USMA. It probably happens fairly often it's just that most kids don't get to read their recommendations.

Now if you wrote how much you want to go to USAFA in your USMA essay...well... that would be a different story

Not at all. The whole letter is geared towards USMA and uses its name several times. But the 3rd line mentions Air Force Academy.

I suppose you are correct, though. Thanks!

Boo Boo on your LOR....

Don't sweat it. LORs are neat, but there is no scoring to increasing your WCS.

Your counselor sent it, not you. Nothing you could do about that. This coming from someone whose counselor put Navy all over my WP app back when it was a paper application...ie, they had to consciously write it instead of just hitting Ctrl F to find and replace. I still made it btw.
