    Hello all,

I would like to ask what is the time frame a Letter of Assurance is given to candidates? I've heard some receive them in September, while others in December.

K_Delrosario: This question comes up every year, it seems. The first and most important thing for all of you potential 2014'ers to know is that your goal is to receive an appointment. Only some ~200 members of your class will receive LOAs. The date of receipt for LOAs, as you have pointed out, will be some time between late September to January. The LOA date (if a candidate receives one) depends largely on when the admissions board reviews their package. Just keep in mind that MOST people who end up in the class of 2014 will NEVER receive an LOA, but will still receive an offer of appointment.

Another thing: Yeah an LOA is awesome! ( our girl got hers the 1st week of oct 06) BUT all that meant was that her USNA side application was good to go. She still had to
    1) pass her medical (which for some makes the LOA a no-go)
    2) get her Congressional nomination ( in some districts an LOA is a guarantee nomination, in ours she had to compete nonetheless and the board was not told of the LOA).
3)THEN she had to complete senior year with her grades/AP tests, etc. ( some stumble on the grades here )
4)and not be injured prior to I-Day. ( another hurdle some don't get over)

so it's a great psychological prize, don't get me wrong. My girl could say she had been admitted to USNA in early admission all senior year long. But it's no sure guarantee untill all these other steps are completed.

What parts of the application are required to receive an LOA? Do you have to have completed your Candidate Fitness Assessment?
