In some information that my BGO gave me it states that a applicant can be nominated by an Active Duty or reserve, Naval or Marine Corps personnel. does rank factor into this? is this source equivilant to that of a Congressional Source?

Either your BGO gave you incorrect information, or you did not understand the information he gave you.

Only the following sources can nominate you to the USNA:

    • Members of the US Congress (Representatives, Senators, and Delegates)
    • the President of the USA
    • the Vice-President of the USA
    • the Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico
    • the Governor of Puerto Rico
    • the Secretary of the Navy
    • the Superintendent of the USNA

    jreffert,

I see two opportunities where this could happen:

    (1) As a Presidential nomination, parents that are Active Duty and served for a specified amount of time or that are in the Reserve component and earned a specific amount of points qualify for this nomination.

    (2) An NROTC Nomination, who's Commanding Officer is normally Active Duty.

In either case, rank has nothing to do with this.....a nomination is a nomination, is a nomination, is a nomination!

Yes, and that nomination comes from the POTUS, not the former AD member.

That type of nomination comes from SECNAV, on the recommendation the CO of the (J)ROTC unit, not from the (J)ROTC CO himself. He/She has no legal nominating authority.

    Luigi,

I concur, however, the outside parent/applicant might not see it the same way we do...thus, some clarification.

Could be a misunderstanding of the basic information. There are noms available to members of the regular and reserve Navy and Marine Corps via SecNav as stated above.
