Hi all. I would like to shoot off a question regarding Letters of recommendation for the USNA, for I am confused.

Many people say you get 3 letters, 1 math teacher, 1 science teacher (preferably Chem. or physics), and 1 other (teacher or non teacher)

But then I have heard you also get 3 letters but from a different teacher subject (1 math, 1 English, and one other)

Can someone please clear this up for me please?

thank you.

2 recs. One math, one english. Counselor confirms your academics and activities record. You are not requested to send in any other recommendations. Some candidates send them in under for very special reasons - if the recommender is able to outline a very different situation that sets you apart from other candidates.

Yes, if a third won`t reveal anything pertinent the first two don`t. Think of how many they have to read. If every person sent in three, they`d be reading a lot more.

And technically you don't "send them in". Everything is done electronically - your teachers, counselor, and yourself will complete all pieces online.

There is a lot of guidance on this forum re additional letters of rec. If you do a search on the subject, you'll find a lot of helpful info.

As other have said, for most candidates, the two required letters + counselor are fine.:thumb:
