Just curious, is there anyone who is part of the LGBT community going to West Point (or another academy) for the class of 2020?
I would like this forum to be for those people who fall under that category and want to talk (anonymously) about anything before they report to their respective academy.

As a cow, I'm gonna chime in here and say that I have never seen any discrimination at the Academy based on sexual orientation; on the contrary, we're taught (and so will you) to not only tolerate the diversity of those in your unit, but encourage it, because diversity allows you to bring together the strengths of the individuals on your team. I've heard this straight from the Supe himself when we discuss these things as a Corps and with your class. So if any candidates have any concerns in this regard, I understand, but it will have no bearing on your cadet career. Take it from someone who's been here for two years.

I think I read in the West Pointer magazine that the first captain this year is openly gay. Obviously people are pretty accepting there if that is the case. It is great to see.

I didn't hear about that yet, but that is good to know. Definitely another sign that the academy encourages diversity.

VP Joe Biden mentioned it in his commencement speech on Saturday.
