We just got our schedule for Plebe Parents Weekend in the mail. I notice that Liberty ends at 10 each night ( 6 pm on Sunday). Is that definite? For some reason, I thought that there was a possibility of having the whole weekend together. Perhaps I was envisioning some kind of "extra time off for good behavior on the part of Class of 2018."

The fun military difference between leave and liberty. Liberty requires mustering each night with a leash on where you can go leave allows you to be anywhere until the leave expires. Welcome to the Navy.

Historically, there is no liberty during PPW - regardless of conduct. Your plebe will return to Mother B for accountability formation and sleep there each night. You'll still have your plebe on Friday afternoon and evening, Saturday all day, and Sunday until dinnertime.

Last year, the Plebes' PPW Town Liberty expired at midnight on Saturday, but most everyone headed back toward the Yard much earlier than that to avoid the traffic crush (which will be significant ... expect to see lots of Plebes jumping out of cars and running back to the Yard).

Bear in mind that PPW is not the end of Plebe Summer (although the end will be in sight) and let your Plebe do whatever he/she wants for all of the available time.

After that wonderful weekend of (in our case) sleeping, visiting, eating, sleeping ... and sleeping some more, your Plebe will have slightly less than a week more of Plebe Summer before the Brigade Reform (when all of the upperclass will return for the Academic year). Then the real fun will begin

there is no such thing as time off for good behavior in the military. I think that only happens in the prison system

As stated earlier, there is a difference between liberty and leave. Parent's weekend is liberty. The Thanksgiving break is leave.

Actually, during football season, the Brigade does occasionally get extra time off for good behavior. It's called a "meritorious weekend," and it is granted by the Dant at his discretion (generally following Navy wins, which the Dant openly attributes to the "good behavior" shown by the Brigade's demonstrated spirit).

"I heard we might get the whole weekend off for PPW!" Hahaha, biggest rumor/let down I heard during plebe summer.

Also we don't get extra leave/liberty for good behavior. When the Dant gives us a weekend it usually because navy football won or it's granted at a Forestall Lecture.
