Would love to hear some real world, factual stories of career paths of students who graduated from USNA vs other schools, say VMI or Citadel. In particular, USMC career paths if possible. What advantages are there USNA over VMI or Citadel. Thanks.

I don't know much about USNA, so I cannot be of help when comparing it to a SMC like VMI. However, if you post a thread in the forum for Publicly and Privately Funded Military Colleges, there are some people who have fantastic information regarding VMI, the Citadel and all of the other SMC's and Maritime schools. You should be able to get more information there.

hopeful: Being a 2012mom, my DD is still a Mid. However, we know several former Mids who are now serving in the USMC. The first stop for every USMC officer (from USNA or any other source) is "The Basic School," where new 2nd Lts spend a pretty grueling ~6 months in training. After that, officers selected for aviation training head to initial flight training. Not positive about whether Marine Corps ground officers go straight to their units or not, but we do know at least one 2008 USNA grad who has already had one deployment to Afghanistan. You can get lots of info by searching old threads on this site, and also by visiting the Marine Corps officer web site.
