Hello,
My application has been completed now for about 2-3 months. I was just wondering if someone could please give me a little feedback as to whether I am competitive for an LOA or to just hope for the best when last minute appointments are sent out.

ACT:
English-31
Math-26
Science-28
Reading-29
Writing- 10/12
I will be taking the December ACT, and I am focusing on bringing my Math up.

CFA: (I am a female)
Pushups-40
Situps-100
Pullups-2
Basketball Throw-42 ft.
Shuttle-9.4
Mile-8:14

I am very involved in NJROTC, Civil Air Patrol, NHS and Marching Band. At the end of this year I will have three athletic letters. I have also won a state poetry contest. My unweighted GPA is 3.72 (no AP or IB classes offered).

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Nobody can tell you if you are competitive for an LOA, as so few are given out and nobody really knows what drives the awarding of an LOA. That said, non-LOA appointments are hardly "last minute" they are the norm, with the LOA being the exception. Appointments will start showing up anytime now, with the bulk of them in March, because that is when the applications close. Always remember, an LOA is a great thing, but an APPOINTMENT is the goal.
The best feedback I could give is to keep doing whatever you can to present the strongest package to the board, study hard for that ACT you have coming up, and then be confident that you have done your best to put the best package forward.

lfaulk, do y ou have your MOC or other nomination?

The LOA is indeed a wonderful thing, but remember, only about 5% of those appointed get one. And, it won't make a gnat's eyelash of difference on I-Day or beyond. Concentrate on being the best you can be now, and get that Math score up - and maybe take the SAT.

AS everyone has stated the amount of LOA's are very small for the AFA compared to other services. You may be the top of your class at hs, but everyone that gets apptd is the top of their class too. You need to be the top of the top of the candidates.

Too many candidates wrap themselves up with the idea of if I don't get an LOA, I am 2nd class. You are not. The AFA is also like the traditional college where they recruit athletes. Some LOA's go to those that they recruit. Some go to the traditional candidate, but the key thing is it is only SOME.

You do need to get that ACT M up, because you are several points below the median. I believe the composite median historically is 31.

I do not have any nomination as of yet, but my interview with my Representative is on the 20th. The application deadline for one of the senators has not yet passed, so I am not sure when I will hear from either of them.

Don't forget to keep them updated as your stats change, especially if you have something good to report (Student of the Year! MVP of the Ping Pong team! Whatever it is, let 'em know!)
