I am new here and still learning. My son has a nice shiny new LOA in hand for USMA... no nomination yet, but we are hopeful... feeling a bit like it is out of our hands right now.

How much does having an LOA help in getting a Congressperson or Senator's Nomination?

Thanks in advance.

Congrats to your son. Good luck w/ the nomination interviews. All MOC seem to handle things differently. Seems some will give a nomination automatically if you have a LOA, while others will 'play games' and not give a nomination feeling the SA will 'come up' with a nomination and then the MOC can continue to spread the nomination wealth around. From what I have gleened from reading these forums, if your son applies to ALL nomination sources available to him then it is likely that with his LOA he'll receive an appointment. But naturally if I am wrong someone here will correct me! LOL! Again, congrats and I hope he receives the appointment!

YAAAYYYY for your son!!!! Do the dance of joy!!

Congrats to ProudMama and your son!

When did your son start the application process? When was the candidate file completed?

more info on LOA in hand....

My son began his file some time ago.

He is still completing his file, a little bit more on one statement, a slow-to-respond math teacher evaluation, and he still has the fitness test to do (he has been waiting until football season ends and his coaches have more time)...

He is thrilled and hopeful, as are his father and I.

We sent copies of the LOA to the potential nominators today... just in case they did not receive copies directly from West Point in a timely enough fashion as we know the one office which has interviews will be scheduling those for Nov. 20th.

So now I guess we wait... I am giddy and hopeful, and worried and thrilled, and emotional and, well, just about everything EXCEPT patient!

I am so happy to have had anyone respond here... THANKS! I now feel a little less alone in the process. :yay:

Thanks everyone.

MOC must mean Member of Congress, right? Whats is SA?

(I DID say I am new here, right?)
