So my DD has an LOA and she is working on the nomination. Does she need to be the principal or just one of the ones given by the congressman.

She just needs to be nominated, it does not matter if she is the principal or not. Congrats!

+1. nolifepilot (who oughta get a life ) is absolutely correct.

thanks, but DD still needs to get through interviews, so there is still a road to go.

congrats on the LOA, she only needs a nomination (pretty much even if she was last on the MOC list). as long as she doesnt mess up the interview, the LOA in hand is worth its weight in gold. almost there!

I remember awhile back that one candidate had a family member that would have allowed him to obtain a Presidential nomination, but that they were not aware of it until it was too late. The candidate got in the next year with it.

The day after my son received his LOA, the ALO/BGO came to our house to interview him. The interiewer told us he really did not need the interview because he had an LOA. He asked if we had wquestions so we sat down with him. One of the things we brought up was the Nomination from MOC. We were concerned if there would be a problem with that. He told us that LOA was his ticket in. Even if he did not get a MOC Nom, the academy would find him a nominating source ie. Sec of Air Force. My son got his nom from our Senator, so we never had to go to alternative sources.
That ALO/BGO pretty much assured us that the LOA was his in, he pretty much assured us that he would have no worries from that point on. This all occurred on Oct 8 2009. I don't know if things have changed or if the information he gave us is correct.

My DS is seeking appointments to both USAFA and USNA and also received his LOA from the USNA. He has Presidential noms and just needs to finish his CFA.

He received his nomination for USAFA this week.

He was advised to still seek nominations from all areas to increase his chances. Does he still need to seek another nomination for USNA since he received his LOA?

Confused...

Short answer: no.

With a Presidential nomination and an LOA to USNA...provided he is "3Q" (qualified medically, athletically, academically) he's IN as long as he keeps his schooling, quals, etc.
