LOA received, where does nomination come from?

Thank you. That makes me feel much better.

He's first or second in scoring and the teams best defender so he's having a great year and a great time.

Very helpful thread, esp with DS coming from an ultra-competitive district (MD-5). Sounds like we should not be surprised if my DS does not top any slate even with his LOA. In fact, he is the third candidate from his HS with an LOA, although one is apparently set on going USAFA.

3 LOA's to USNA from one school? And I thought LOA's were rare.. even with my LOA, I'm thinking there's a good chance that I won't get a nomination because of the sheer number of LOA's in Maryland, especially because my stats are not that great.

I doubt they were all from USNA. There are 3 LOAs in our HS also, one AFA, one USMA and one USNA. The AFA LOA is an athletic recruit so that's in a different class.

LOAs are rare. It all depends on the school. There are some areas that draw a ton of applicants. You take an area like NOVA with very impressive schools you can get folks with crazy stats. Like I said I had a buddy who came from Thomas Jefferson in Fairfax. They had 6 guys alone from his class at TJ at USNA. That didn't count the other 10-12 they sent to the other SAs. Their stats were off the charts. All 6 had SAT scores above 1500 (the old old system). Maryland is so close to USNA you have lots of applicants year and year out. Hang in there, USNA does this year in and year out. Same with Maryland reps. They know how the system works.

All three from USNA. Two were related to athletics but as I understand it, one if them is #1-2 in the class of around 530.

I didn't receive an LOA, but yes, MOC/Senators CAN game the system. After hearing about this, I immediately went and secured a JROTC Honor School nomination because it was available as a source. I got REALLY lucky with it too, since the region is getting inspected this year (meaning that all schools had to be stripped of their stars in the middle of the semester).

That makes a big difference. Athletic LOAs are kind of a different animal.
