LOA Received!

I was kidding, yeah. Everyone here should be helping and supporting each other...that's kinda the point, haha.

Really? Did they have some special I-Day ceremony at your house or something?

Until he shows up on the yard on 1 July 2010, he hasn't been welcomed into anything.

You need to sew the buttons back on your vest and relax a little bit.

Your son's LOA is something to be proud of, but it doesn't mean anything once the appointments are handed out. He's not getting a special uniform or patch, he's not getting anything more than the kid who gets his appointment on May 15th. The plebes really don't talk about it, and no one there cares about how great you were in high school.

AMEN to that Luigi!! Just curious Devil Dog...did your son want to be part of the USNA, or did YOU want him to be a part of the USNA? I mean, really, if your son is as FABULOUS as you claim, he will certainly shine on his own...step back,,,he has earned this honor...an LOA is great, buy I really hope he truly is a package deal...if so, you don't need to keep "MARKETING" for him. He will do well in July on his own....whwere yes, they will aall be equal thrn...AND very humbled....By yhe way...having it ANNOUNCED at a football game is a bit presumptuous...don't you think? He DOES NOT have a nomination/ appointment yet...remember?

Deleted because responding to posts that have now been deleted at request of DevilDog.

As they always said in the Army - "What do you want, a medal, or a chest to pin it on?!" No special uniform? Now I'm disappointed!

I agree and tried to say that 5 or 6 posts ago! :thumb: Going to start using the ignore function on this board!

LOL Marciemi...I am with you....have a GREAT day!! Stay Positive...and CONGRATS on your grad from West Point...I am PROUD of you...Thank you for your service and committment to our country!

Just curious, have heard it mentioned that if a candidate is 3 "Q"d, they will recieve a letter stating so...my son was informed(from a very relaible source) his app has gone before the board, he has been 3 "Q"d and that that is GREAT news...however, that was a few weeks ago and he has not recieved a letter stating that...any input please? Thanks!!

I guess I'm still a bit confused about what 3Q'd means too. I've never heard of a specific "letter" saying that, but have heard of people being told by their BGO's. Doesn't the 3Q mean academically, medically, and physically qualified? So if they are an official candidate, then they're academically qualified from how I understand it. Then once you know if they've passed their CFA (BGO should know that) and Dodmerb (letter or website), then technically I think they're 3Q'd. I'm pretty sure it doesn't include the nom.

Thank you both...we did know that he was academically qualified, (4.0 GPA) 1st in his grad class, 30-ACT Science, 32 ACT Math, Passed Dodmerb in June, CFA done at NASS in June...but it is nice to know the board has reviewd his app and they have officially deemed him 3"Q"d...I won't be so crazy then waiting for a letter stating this...my mail guy will be relieved...LOL!! have a nice day all!:shake:

Actually it means scholastically, medically, and physically qualified.

Scholastic qualification includes more than academics. :thumb:

Physical qualification is accomplished by passing the CFA. Medical qualification is accomplished by passing DODMERB.

And often (sometimes?) the academy sends a letter informing a candidate of his/her scholastic qualification.

It is important to remember, that even with an LOA, an appointment is not a complete certainty, only very, very, very likely. If it's a nomination-contingent LOA, then it's probably a certainty for practical purposes, but if you're waiting for medical or physical qualification, there is still work to be done. Not to mention the fact that we are required to keep our grades up during our senior year. Not to mention the fact that you could break your leg, bust a knee, or have some other injury. Not to mention the fact that you could do something incredibly stupid and get in trouble. Nothing is certain until you take the oath. Be happy about the LOA, it is probably an appointment once the noms come out, but don't take your eyes off the ball. Now is not the time to relax, and all the hard work you've done over the years can still be undone by screwing up now, more than ever.

I'll try to remember that for next time!

Wasn't someone recommending bubble wrap on another thread?! I fully take your meaning though! Anyone else though, with kids with the LOA's already - are you having a hard time getting them to even consider a plan B? I know the importance of it, but getting it through to my son now is nearly impossible. I literally had to force him to sit down and apply to a couple civilian schools. I at least plan to follow through on one of them, all the way until the end of plebe summer - do you guys agree? He's just too busy with his head in the clouds to think of these practical things right now!

For those candidates and parents of candidates reading this thread and slipping into deep, dark depression because of all the jubilation with LOAs - don't despair.

Most candidates will not receive one. I know that has been said many times before - but it bears repeating.

Secondly, it just seems like "everybody" is getting an LOA. Not true.

Generally speaking, there are three types of people who initiate threads in this forum:
1.) Those who are truly seeking information/advice.
2.) Those giving out helpful information/advice (usually Blue & Gold Officers)
3.) Those who are elated over beneficial occurrences - like completing their application, receiving a nomination, or getting an LOA.

Nobody is going to dwell on, at length, about unfortunate circumstances or bear their soul about their apprehension, doubts, worries, and reservations. But plenty of that is out there - they're just not writing about it.

So, if you feel like you're all alone and the world is passing you by ... take heart! You have lots of company and every midshipman who is currently at the Naval Academy, while still in candidate status, probably had those same feelings ... and look where they are today.

THANK YOU Memphis...I needed to hear/read that....it is in the USNA hands and God's at this point. If the USNA wants my son, then so be it....if not, then God has another, more important path for him to take. Have a nice evening,,,and thank you again for putting it into prospective not only for me, but many others out there as well!!

 It's tough to keep hopes high when it seems everyone around you is receiving a LoA but this makes it much more bearable. Thank you Memphis.
