I have received a nomination from my Senator and interviewed with my congressman and waiting for his decision.

I just went from Remedial to Qualified on my DODMERB status after having a follow up exam from a dermatologist which isn't reflected on my USMMA application status yet. Everything else is good to go.

My questions are this, has KP sent out all the LOA yet and will a remedial status hold up USMMA from sending out a LOA?

Starting to feel I missed the boat.

R,
2016 applicant

It's my understanding that LOA's are given out very early to the strongest candidates. I haven't heard of many LOA's being given out past early December - but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. IMHO if you're now a "qualified" candidate and you have a nomination, focus on keeping your academic and e.c. record as strong as possible. You don't need an LOA to receive an appointment. Forward your first semester grades and (if applicable) an updated resume showing any and all e.c. activities you've participated in since you submitted your original application. Maybe take the SAT one final time. Follow up with an email or phone call to your admissions counselor letting them know how you are progressing. Don't be a pain in the a$$...just let them know that you're still very interested and see if there's anything else that needs to be done at this point to strengthen your package.

While the waiting game is no fun...the same words are typed every year on this forum...it isn't over until the class of 2016 reports for INDOC. Point and case: my DS had applied to four "other" academies very early on. DS received nominations to another academy and to KP from our congressman - at the end of the first week in February (the deadline for KP applications is March 1st)!! Knowing next to nothing about KP, he made some phone calls, sat down with a parent representative and two alumni from our state, did additional research and realized KP was a perfect fit for him. In four days he put together his application, updated his references, resume, etc. and overnighted his completed application package to KP. He followed up with several phone calls and emails and found out two weeks later that his status was changed to "pincipal". One week after that he received his offer of appointment. DS is a plebe this year and wouldn't change his decision for anything.

If you are a strong candidate and want this more than anything...don't give up hope just because you haven't received an LOA. Maintain your "drive" and try to be patient. Remember... good things come to those who wait...

Good Luck! :thumb:

Thank you for the reply. It definitely keeps me motivated for KP! I just took the ACT again and increased my score in Math and Science by 3 points each. I have sent that into the admissions office. I am also Captain of the wrestling team this year and hopefully, make it to state. I will update that when it happens. I also received a nomination from my Congressional Representative for the Naval Academy but not KP. I have a KP nomination from my Senator though. Once again Thank you for the reply and encouragement.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Our story is nearly the same as wisconsinmamma2015 including have a DS plebe class of 2015.

DS was triple nom at this point to usafa without an LOA. ROTC instructor recomended KP. He applied after xmas without a nom recieved an LOA within 2 weeks called congressman staffer got a nom and then waited to see what happened with usafa. In the interum he visited KP talked to midshipman and decided KP was the right fit.

Now over christmas break all he talks about is where he wants to go on his sea tour.

Bottom line. You arent too late for any of the SA. You would be late for a nomination but not too late even for that.

Thank you for the reply. I just finished third in a wrestling tournament this weekend (182#) and was selected as student athlete of the week at my High School. How should I send this into Admissions? Just send those two things in or update my whole EC sheet and send that in?

GA_APPLICANT, my suggestion would be to update your entire e.c. sheet / resume. (Have you included any/all part-time and/or volunteer jobs and hobbies as well?) I would send it in with your first semester grades, current class rank and a copy of your most recent ACT scores. Top it off with a very well thought out cover letter and cross your fingers! Remember...you have until March 1st to make your application as strong as possible! (Just make sure that everything you want included in your final file is RECEIVED by March 1st.):thumb:

Just recieved a Nominaton from my Congressman to KP. So I now have a Senator and a congressional nomination. Updating my EC now to send in.

Best of luck to you and keep us informed on how things go!

When you update your application please be sure to edit and proof your cover letter. Best of everything and please keep us posted. If you have not visited KP see if you can plan a visit.

I will make sure that I do that. I went up to KP for their last Home football game against Union college. I met Coach Toop and gave him my highlight film. A couple of the football players gave me and my family a tour of KP and it was awesome! Thank you for the reply and I will keep you posted.

I just logged on to the application status and it says "Hold". Looking back on the forum that sounds like the kiss of death. Is there anything to do that can have them relook at my status?

I wouldn't stress about the "hold" status. This is where the waiting game comes into play! Could mean several different things. The first one that comes to mind is that they've sent out offers of appointments for the number of available slots for your state. Don't panic though...now they wait to see who signs their letter of intent and who doesn't. For those that don't...KP will go on to their "next round" and send out offers to their "hold" candidates. If those slots are still full...the "hold" candidates go into a sort of national pool, etc, etc. Could also be that KP needs to verify something, like DODMERB, CFA, test scores, first semester grades, etc, etc. Do you see where I'm going with this?

If you still have concerns, call/email your admissions rep at KP, that's what they're there for. If you call to find out what the hold means for you, you in turn are showing your rep how much you want this.

Keep thinking positive thoughts! A "hold" is not the kiss of death! It's actually the next best thing to seeing a "primary"!! Good luck and keep the faith! :thumb:
