I know this may be too early, but does anyone have information about when LOAs come this year for class of 2019? I've read other forums from previous years where people received LOAs around July, but I'm not sure if anyone this year has received an LOA yet.

West Point has significantly reduced the use of LOAs. You are more likely to get a non-binding LOE which allows for a fall overnight visit. Expect to see them starting around September for those with enough file completion and that are near the top of their district.

LOE Letter?

I'm not sure I received an LOE letter because it didn't say anything about an overnight stay. What the letter/invitation did say was, "Only a few students receive this invitation, evidence of the high caliber student that you are." Then the letter went on to provide me a link that started like this: scholar.usma.edu/Kelsi(lastname) etc. When I went to the link, it took me to the portal in which I have already did as much as I could until it officially opens on August 20th.

My parents also got the same letter only that it was directed to them about me. Does anyone know if this is a general letter sent or is this the LOE? Any assistance would help.

Thanks

Kelsi,
That is a general letter. Last year the LOE specifically said "I encourage you..." and "With this letter, I am authorizing you for an Overnight Visit which is reserved for our most competitive candidates." My DS received one in September. It may still be early for the LOEs to be sent out.

Oh, ok. Thank you for that information.

Kelsi - letter or email? What it sounds like is based on your test scores (and possibly other demographic information because remember they are trying to increase the number of female cadets), WP Admissions sent you a targeted recruiting effort. In the days before internet, WP used to canvas broad swaths of juniors/rising seniors with a mailed invitation to apply. With online applications, more candidates find their own way to WP, but also, better data management lets them target invitations much better. From your signature block, looks like their profile is set just right... Take the invitation as a good sign of their interest in you. Go Army!

845something,

I also heard they were trying to increase female cadets. I also received an ema for the Minority Outreach Officer and my father thinks it may have had something to do with the fact that I'm a registered card carrying Native American.

Thanks again for the insight and information to what these letter might mean.
