Congrats jake s ! Can you please share what steps you have completed in the application process? (e.g., attended SLS, rocked the CFA, all portions completed on the candidate portal, etc.). Did you contact the MALO listed on the liaison tab for the interview?

Good luck and thanks for any insights!

When is the latest one could complete their profile and still receive an LOA? My profile is pretty much completed, but I've been waiting for my math teacher's SOE for like 3 weeks. It's getting pretty annoying

Hey yall, Here's what I have completed for the app:

-Attended SLS session 2
-USMA application completed late June
-DODMERB qualified 7/10
-Nomination packets are complete, mailing them tomorrow

I have known my MALO since I was a freshman. I have been in contact with him about 2-3 times a month since I was accepted to SLS in December.

Just some basic stuff: 32 ACT, 11/129 class rank, baseball letter winner, lots of extra curriculars. If you want more, feel free to PM me and I can e-mail you my resume if youd like.

Good luck everyone! My MALO said that late July/early August was when the first were coming out so get them while theyre hot!

Ok that's good it's late July/early August. I suspect my profile to be complete sometime within a week, depending on whether my math teacher completes her evaluation of me or not. I really wish I didn't have to depend on others to finish my profile promptly. If it was just up to me my profile would have been done already.

Congrats Jake...good news indeed. My situation is pretty much the same like yours, application completed July 9, minus the CFA, college transcripts, and college SOE's, DODMERB qualified July 8...and I sent all my nomination stuff today.

Waiting diligently for that LOA. Don't know how my view of my current college would be with an LOA on the top of my mind the entire time, haha.

abeastlybeast, I completely know how you feel, but unfortunately, some people you depend on to finish the profile don't exactly take your matters very seriously during vacation time...a little bit selfish, but they're kind of like students awaiting summer vacation. Once it hits, they pretty much forget about school for another 3 months. I was fortunate to contact my SOE's before school finished so they finished promptly, and as for the transcripts, the CAR, and the academic information form, I was fortunate that my counselor had decided to work all summer.

Good luck though, to the both of you.

I don't think you have to have all of your teacher recommendations in to get an LOA.
True that.
If you can't get them in over the summer, don't worry too much. Get them in asap when you get back to school.
If your teachers go back a couple of days early, this might be a good time to drop by school.
Also, don't get too hung up on getting an early LOA. Some will, some won't. Just keep on with your application, nominations and keep updating with new SAT's, activities etc.

to add onto jake s: im basically in the same boat as you
i have my profile mostly completed, i am just waiting on 2 teacher evals and the CAR. I am taking my CFA this week.
i was medical qualified 7/14
32 ACT with extracurriculars, varsity letters, and Civil Air Patrol
i recently emailed my MALO asking if he could look me up and check if i had an LOA slotted for me. Based on what i have here, how am i looking for getting an LOA?
Just putting it out there, I am NOT obsessed with getting one, I just thought it would be nice to have and I really want to get into West Point as well.
Thanks.

Honestly, I won't pass judgement on a fellow candidate's file because I have not "been there, done that" like the MALO's and Field Force Reps we have posting on here. They are more than willing to help and are a great resource! If you want honest feedback, I suggest seeking out those like scoutpilot who are USMA alums and the numerous parents on here who have had multiple children go through the academy.

The best advice I can give fellow candidates is to get everything done early. And by early I mean last week!!!! It shows commitment to West Point and a strong desire to go to USMA, as well as increases your chances for admissions to know more about you. You want admissions to know as much about you and the activities that make you "the best thing since sliced bread" as possible. Also, I am sure admissions looks more favorably on giving candidates who have a completed or almost completed file an LOA compared to those who dont have their CAR, SOE's, and/or Candidate Statements done. Yes, the SOE's are sometimes out your of control-- but a good leader can get the job done regardless. The admissions process is tough by design to weed out those who aren't committed-- there's a reason that the Service Academies dont use the Common App.

Good luck to everyone!:thumb:

I got a call from my Regional Coordinator that my LOA was sent today!

Congrats AKH!!! To put your mind at ease, my MALO called me on monday to tell me mine arrived and it showed up in the mail today, so expect a 3-4 days' wait. Also, feel free to stalk the mailman like I did-- the LOA comes in a TWE(thin white envelope):thumb:

Once a few more people get an LOA we can start a thread for all of those who have recieved one for 2015 :yllol:

I would like to ask a question:

Will getting a LOA have an influence on getting a nomination from your MOC?

I would like to ask a question:

I've heard it actually does. They usually are more enthusiastic about giving out nominations to LoA receivers.

I talked to the Southeast admissions officer this morning and unfortunately, he said that I'm not on route to obtaining an LoA as of right now. So does that mean I won't be competitive for one unless I enhance my file more or does that mean they'll give my file another look sometime later and may give me an LoA?

I received my LOA today in the mail dated July 16th. I had completed my file mid June and have a pretty full resume. My advice is to get everything in as soon as possible so that the Academy can review it...you cant make a solid decision for early LOA's without a nearly complete file. Also retake the CFA until you are comfortable with your scores along with SAT/ACT.

Also I have heard that getting an LOA increases your chances of receiving a nomination..if the academy wants you, why would a nominator want to deny you/the academy the oppertunity? Thats what I heard from AZ at least...

Sounds awesome :shake: And congrats to you caseyrc93!

Concerning an LOA and nominations, if you have an LOA a nomination will be found for you somewhere.
