LOA's for Class of 2015

You're pretty lucky that your congresswoman promised you a principle nomination this early...definitely relieves the whole admissions process by a lot.

What was your running time by the way?

9:28 i think? THe CFA was harder then I thought it would be...Also, I do not wish to sound like i am complaining, but it was unbearably hot on that day, it felt like my lungs were dried out at the end...

EDIT: I can do around 7:30...

and to whoever said that it is early that i got my nomination; i have heard of others already receiving theirs as well, plus my district gets only around a person coming to them a year so i think they said it is safe to say...

and kim i am ny12

szpieg, the only other nominations i have heard of besides yours are presidential nominations, and they are an entirely different animal than a MOC nomination as far as the application and acceptance goes.

well i could care less on how wierd it is...i got it on my profile, and i am happy...i do not wish to start another debate on why so early...

I didn't mean to offend you, I believe that you got a nomination already. We are all on the same side here! I just wanted to point out for the good of the general public that the "other nominations" you refer to others getting already are Presidential nominations.

No I apologize, I shouldn't have lashed out like that; but my weekend has been filled with problems and I guess you were the unlucky one to be receiving my emotions. Sorry.

Was that your mile time?

Wow! You're saying that it is likely you are the only person in the NY12 that will even apply for a nomination to any service academy? That is good fortune!

When was the last debate?

9:28...yeah i know its terrible

Yeah, I guess I am lucky not to live in NJ 5 or in Virginia...we had a little debate after my interview which was maybe 2 months ago?

Do not be surprised if you are asked to take it again. That is a score that may not pass muster for a physical qualification.

yes major belmont told me i will take it again since i know i can do better and i will do better. Train everyday

Can fully understand a 9 mile time, especially on your first try, doing all those workouts and doing a mile run to finish it all off.

Congrats on your nomination though...I just wish my congressional district wasn't as competitive as yours. I live in the top two most competitive in the nation by the way.

I know what it feels like to be in a competitive district. When I applied last year I did not get a nomination to West Point, all of those that did get the nomination got appointments; New Jersey 12 if you're wondering.

Congrats on the nomination, I would say that having that under your belt will give you the energy to do well on your next CFA. My advice to do well on the whole CFA is to actually administer the test on yourself at least once a week prior to the official date. Good Luck.

Really? From reading all of your posts, you seemed to be a really qualified person...high SAT's, ungodly strength for a female, and I'm sure you got great extracurriculars and a good academic record to back all that stuff up too.

Haha thanks.
Coming from NY-03 it's difficult, although your district is probably even more so. My SAT Critical Reading is my only major problem...
But I can't deny my uncanny strength as a female :w00t:
I would say my extracurriculars and academic is average with 3.8 gpa
I wish I had studied harder... hmm now I understand why adults always said that. So if any future candidates are reading this... don't do anything you'll regret! Study hard :thumb:

Is the 3.8 out of a maximum of 4.0 and is it unweighted? Because in my school, my weighted GPA is so heavily inflated, it's not even funny (4.44). Unweighted is probably 4.0 but they never report that. I graduated 8th from my class of 286 so I'm pretty happy about that.

And trust me, my district is pretty competitive. I'm kind of happy that I don't live in VA-11, but living in VA-10 isn't much more of a blessing either.

Yes 3.8/4.0 unweighted (I don't think my school sends weighted avgs to colleges)
And as of now, I can safely say I am definitely in the top 15%, maybe higher, but just to stay on the safe side -- my school doesn't rank.

As a nonresider of VA, I can't really tell where's competitive and what not, but I can completely trust your instinct on competitiveness. Overall, I think the most competitive districts reside in the far east (us) or the west coast :frown:

Could someone explain the difference between "principle nomination" and "nomination?"

The principle nomination is the one will get appointed if the academy find him/her qualified. The other nominations are his/her back ups should the principle fail to qualify. The academy can still appoint the other nominations as it sees fit.

A MOC doesn't necessary use the principle nomination method. If so then all nominations are equal from the MOC's view.

A MOC has three choices in submitting his/her slate of nominees to the Academy:
1. Principle method with numbered alternates
2. Principle method with unranked alternates
3. Competitive or unranked slate

#1 - The MOC names a Principle Nominee and the Academy is required to offer admission if the nominee is FULLY qualified. If the Nominee is not fully qualified or rejects the appointment the Academy will make an offer to next on the list, and so on.

#2 - Same as #1 except when making a subsequent appintment the Academy will choose most qualified from the remaining 9 nominees

#3 - The Academy chooses the candidate in order of merit for the appointment.
