Just booked room for A-Day stay in building 785 of the IHG Army hotel at West Point. They recently privatized, and looked ok, but we have never stayed in a military hotel, so are a bit apprehensive. The location can't be beat, being right on campus. The rates were pretty good considering the date.

Has anyone stayed there before? Was it before or after the changes? What is your assessment? We figured our son would be able to get a nap pretty conveniently if he needs one.

It is now under the holiday inn brand, and apparently have done updates. Any info would be appreciated. Even if it regards military hotels in general.

Last fall I booked some rooms for family and they told me it would be closing for renovations. Good discounts for military if you qualify. But when I went to visit them I was a little concerned, it was tired and looked its age. It needed some attention. I haven't been there since they changed ownership.

We stayed there for a few days in 2013. It definitely needed some updating, but it wasn't nasty. I believe this was around the time Holiday Inn was taking it over so before any renovations. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there, especially if Holiday Inn did some updating. And yes, the location can't be beat!
I've stayed more at the one outside the gate. It was adequate and clean and again, great location. I would put it a notch above the West Point Motel down the street.

I've generally selected convenience over form..so I"m planning on this hotel for 2019 grad. I'm a big fan of the West Point motel...I don't like driving back and forth to the surrounding towns. Yes, this one is old and a bit dated, but as long as it's clean, does it matter?

The west point motel looks quite decent actually, and I wouldn't hesitate to book it. However, I love the idea of being literally on campus, inside the gate, particularly when we have to be there early in the morning. Avoid waiting at the gate security.

We have recently stayed at the IHG just behind the Visitor Center, formally known as the "5 Star". Used it both for Ring Weekend and Graduation last week. Being just outside of Thayer gate made it easy to find food options and the new ID Cards they are issuing to parents allows you to use the DOD lane and we breezed thru security even on the busy graduation morning. As stated above, the IHG is more about location than comfort. Reasonably priced, decent accommodations, and cuts out a lot of travel time. Best of luck in your lodging search.

Have use IHG quite a few times. Rooms are clean but dated, way better than sleeping on the tarmac at some airfield in a third world h3ll hole. All about access to your Cadet, is within walking privilege distance so you can at least get them out of the barracks and watch them sleep.

Is the free breakfast comparable to other chains? Most hotels are providing several items in the breakfast room these days.

Dated rooms don't bother me. Clean bed and bathroom, with soap and shampoo, and a quick breakfast, is what I'm hoping for.

The breakfast is limited, not like a lot of the chains. It will be a quick breakfast
