My daughter has signed up for the overnight visit at VMI for April 20-21. I was hoping to get a recommendation for nearby lodging. Also, how far in advance will I need to reserve a room?

Thanks,
Zeb

There are a fair number of hotels in Lexington- as long as it isn't a Parents weekend or Alumni reunion weekend at VMI or Washington and Lee or a major horse show - you won't have any problems getting a room in Lexington. The Hampton Inn is right in the middle of town and is very nice (nicest Hampton Inn I've ever been in). 3/4 mile on the northside of VMI on Rt11 are several others including the Holiday Inn Express, Wingate, 2 Best Westerns and the Comfort Inn- all of which are nice as well. (BTW- don't be surprised at the price of hotel rooms- Lexington is a fairly pricey little town.)
Stay away from Days Inn- Lexington (really old and needs renovation) and above all avoid Red Carpet Inn (Major dump:thumbdown:)
The VMI website has this list you can use: http://www.vmi.edu/Content.aspx?id=24131
Good luck and have a good visit- it will be nice in Lexington in April.

Thank you for the information and advice. I'll be sure to use your recommendations. At least there's no rush to make reservations. Thanks again.

Take a quick look at the VMI and Washington & Lee calendars (on line) and make sure there is no big event scheduled. If not, you should have little problem finding a room. My DS did an overnight about the same time and I had little problem. There are lots of hotels in Lexington. My favorites are the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express, which of which serve a continental breakfast of generous proportions. Good luck!
