Hi everybody,

Would those of you who have been on your overnight visits be able to tell how it was? What did you all do? I have mine on the 28th and I was just wondering what it would be like before I go. Thanks in advance!

Don't Forget....

Have a great time! Ask all the questions you can, write them down before hand so you don't forget. And don't forget a treat, big box of cookies, twinkles etc

I went in November. First you sit through an admissions briefing, then your cadet will come pick you up. From then on, your pretty much do what your cadet is doing. Go to their classes, their extracurricular activities. You do everything with either your cadet or one of their buddies. I got to go to an extra class or two by going to my cadet's roommate's classes with her, and I got to go to two different club sports practices that way too.
Advice, wear khaki's and a polo shirt or nicer, bring athletic clothing and sneakers in case you get to do a sport, take whatever opportunities you are offered, and ask lots of questions. I had a blast.

Thanks for the quick responses, I'll definitely remember to bring treats for my cadet and his roommates!

Usafa, did you have a chance to meet your RC during the admissions brief or was it given by someone else?

Don't come in a shiny silver suit. Just sayin'.

I didn't log on here for a while, and just noticed you asked a question! As you already went on your visit, and I saw on the acceptance thread that you are in, (congrats!), I am sure all worked out.
But no, I did not meet with my RC, but I did talk to the admissions counselor at West Point itself after the overnight.

I'm going on my overnight next week.
Would it be possible to meet with some coaches or request a basketball player escort me? (even though I'm not a recruit).
Would homemade cookies & no bakes be good to bring for the cadet escort? And should I bring workout clothes?
Anyone have any other insight?
Thanks!

yes to all of the above. Talk to whoever contacted you about the overnight to request a basketball escort. Email the coach to request a meeting. Bring workout clothes to go to practice or IM's with your host. cookies and other snacks are always appreciated (preferably nothing that needs to be refrigerated).

My daughter has her overnight on the 18th. When is yours?

Question on overnight schedule

The website says to report at 8 am... does anyone know what time on the second day the visit officially concludes?

It's been several years since my cadet did his overnight, but I seem to recall that everything was over around 2:00 the next day.

After lunch ...

My DS got back to Admissions around 1PM. I think the email confirmation your DS/DD received says for pickup between 12:30 and 1:00 PM.

After pickup you may want to go to the Cadet Store for boots/socks, etc. so account for that in your travel plans.

I strongly suggest doing what GoBlue1984 suggests here -- stop down at the PX that afternoon on your way out and let the folks in the shoe department there fit you for your boots. They do a SUPERB job at fitting cadets, and my DS (Class of '16) came home from his visit last year with two pairs so he could break them in for Beast.

Just be aware that the Cadet store also sells a cheaper "spec" low quarter that is not as comfortable as the Bates recommended in the boot letter.

It's worth getting fitted there even if they don't have what you want. Get the size and order via AAFES.

Also, you can call the cadet store directly, tell them what you want and they will charge your CC and ship.

Parents, remember the Cadet store is normally open and accessible on R-day, and you can usually see candidates getting marched around. Unlikely to be your candidate, but you'll get the idea. But it and the Museum store (DARA?) are excellent places to get your USMA swag. Cadet Bookstore as well.
