Hey everybody,

I finally made an account! I've been in and out of the forum for the past four years and decided to make the jump and try to maybe give back a little bit.

Originally I was dead set on USAFA (my only real experience was with the AF as thats how my parents met, though both were enlisted and Mom retired as an E-9) and wouldn't budge from it. I was wait listed my senior year so decided to go to my local college and reapply the following year. I got involved in Army ROTC (that was all my area had) because I wanted to show that I could handle military duties as well as my academic commitments. Well, as the year went on I fell in love with the Army. Loved the labs and just the feel of the Army, so I decided to apply to USMA as well as reapplying to USAFA. Turns out I was denied USAFA this time, but was waitlisted and I guess pretty close to the top of the list for USMA.

Again, bad news came down the pipeline, but was followed up by great news. While I wasn't going to a SA, I was offered a 3-year scholarship to stay at my local school and taking everything into account decided that I'd rather stay and get my commission through the ROTC program.

That seems like forever ago as I'm now a senior, my BN's S1 OIC, and just found out my branch of Active Duty Military Intelligence, Branch detail Infantry.

Other random facts:
- Political Science Major, International Studies Minor
- Overall "E" rating at Warrior Forge( LDAC) 2013
- Division II Varsity wrestler all four years in college
- Extensively involved in Student Government, current Senior Class Chair
- Christian Summer Camp Counselor

PrideofPA...

Your perseverance is outstanding. This story will be comforting to many on this board. We see so many posts from people that are exhilarated with the news of an LOA or appointment. Sometimes we forget that for every one of those there are a hundred others waiting anxiously for a BFE that may never come.

By keeping your eye on the ultimate prize, you have shown us that there is more than one way to reach a dream. There is a great country song that says "some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers."

Good luck to you... and thank you for your dedication to serve.

Wow! Congratulations! Inspiring story -- thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much! It's not where I thought I would end up at all, but I'm very happy to be where I am.

Your AROTC info should help many potential applicants here!

Pride of PA,

Hi, I am new to the forum - would send a PM, but I haven't done 5 posts yet...

My DS was awarded a 4-year AROTC to Gannon (not his first choice - but his top choice he hasn't heard from yet, so we decided to designate Gannon to make sure he didn't lose the schol...)

Since you are in the Pride of PA BN, I thought I'd ask for your thoughts on AROTC and the college experience there. And what do you think of Erie/the area, etc.?

You can PM me if you like (I see you have enough posts to qualify!).

Thanks,
mom of AROTC schol winner
