Daughter did AIM session 1, loved it, but is curious how long the shouting, square meals, square corners, greeting of cadres, etc., continues. She heard that the shouting stops at end of swab summer, but questions as to what the 4th years put up with were politely sidestepped in the Q & A sessions.

Oh yea, she was one of the many that came home with 102 fever for three days. Doctor says viral infection, not flu.

All input is appreciated.

the first month is still fairly intense. after that a 4/c may get reamed out every once in a while if they get caught doing something wrong

longevity

It generally lasts through the first year (4th class) with various reprieves. You will see the term "carry-on" used occasionally. When 4/c cadets are granted carry-on for a limited time (sometimes for a meal, sometimes for a day or so), many of those restrictions are removed (squaring corners, meals, etc..).

It is a tradition that in the spring, upon the completion of many class wide tasks, some of the restrictions are lifted.

I don't want to start a wild thread here  but you notice I haven't used the word "harassment" to describe these activities. I teach at a major public university, and we view "harassment" as a personal, unjustified attack on an individual or group. The Academy does not view what you have described as harassment, but as part of their military training. No one in our family has a military background, so I am not going to debate the merits and/or pros and cons of these activities. But they are an integral part of the Academy environment, and in one way shape or form, exist throughout the four years of school. They don't go away at the end of the first year. they just change...

It lasts through the first year. While the yelling is fairly constant over the summer, it's used more for your failures during the academic year (and they will screw up from time to time).

Boards for Carry On occur at the very end of the academic year.

Consider it a year though....although....there have been 3/c out there who have been "talked to" too, rare but it happens.

Thanks for the quick answers. This is the information we need to positively prepare our daughter...

I thought long and hard before using the word "harassment", and chose it because everybody knows exactly what I mean, and hopefully, on this forum, nobody will take offense.
