    2017 stats found here: http://www.usma.edu/admissions/SitePages/Class Profiles.aspx

Does Qualified (academically and physically) also mean medically qualified? Or is the actual number of 3Q'd candidates smaller since some were DQ'd? Also what is the minimum standard that admissions will qualify people academically for?

    Just kind of curious.

It appears that Qualified as seen on USMA's 2017 profile means academically, physically, and medically qualified. Of all the candidates nominated, about 2,200 were 3Q'd with a nomination, and about 1200 out of the 2,200 are attending. Someone else might be able to answer your second question because I am not sure what the minimums are for academic qualification. Maybe it's a secret.

Wow! Just reading over these stats makes me even more proud of my DS for how close he came to being admitted last year. Those who were 3Q'd, nominated, but not selected are a small group in their own right (only 816 males- just 6% of those who applied). His scores and ranking are all within the majority also, by the looks of it. We were disappointed last year, but this shows the amazing caliber of cadets accepted. In the meantime, he's thriving in his ROTC Battalion, contracting early this year. In 2017, he'll meet up once again with his Old Gray Line brethren and lead our fine army with honor and dedication.

Those 2165 who were qualified might not have been nominated also, so really that is much smaller number for those who are 3Q'd AND nominated.

The 2165 who were qualified probably also had a nomination. Of the 2165, about 1500 will be offered appointments and about 1200 go on to accept the appointment.

Ooh good point, I didn't even think about that.

It would be really interesting to see how many people were 3Q'd with a nomination, and then how many appointments were given out. Since the amount of appointments is probably a bit higher than the actual amount admitted.

That's how it works at the Air Force Academy so I'm sure that it's not much different between academies.

Keyword: "probably". There is no indication that those who are qualified also got a nomination. I was 3Q'd months before I received any nomination. The process of being nominated is not tied into being qualified at all.

Those stats show just how competitive admission to West Point is! I got a nomination and just got a letter saying I'm 3Q'ed so now all I can do is wait!

I'm well aware that qualification and nomination are not tied together. The stats are listed as 4,166 total nominees then on the next line it states that 2,165 are qualified, so one can infer that it means out of the 4,166 nominated, 2,165 of those were also qualified. Similar stats are more clearly identified on the Air Force Academy's Class of 2017 class profile.

And do you think the 2,165 are also medically qualified?

I wonder if the stats exist for the numbers of QNS who reapply and our admitted on second try? Or, do most just go off w/ plan B and bloom where they are planted?

I can speculate, but in the end it would not mean anything. I don't see why they would be listed as qualified and are not fully qualified (academically, physically and medically).

Mea culpa for the grammar error in my post; I admit it: I didn't proofread, and now it's too late to edit. I am dying a thousand deaths here.

I can speak for one in that class who went SAP...:thumb:

( BTW, many folks told him it was a great opportunity and I cannot disagree)

He's also one of the few without a Varsity letter or athletics participation.

Same here! And it's probably the worst part of this process because there is nothing more we can do!

Same here. We should have some fairly good odds though because they're being a lot more selective in who they qualify since rolling admissions stopped (knock on wood).

Well that's good! I have noticed that a lot of people haven't gotten their 3Q letters this year!
