Low PCSM Score for Pilot

AFOQT is nothing more than a paper test on your aptitude to understand aircraft/flying. Knowing something on paper has little to do with your flying skills, which is why most believe the test changed a lot more for flying hours now with the new 2.0 system. That being said it is still worth studying for to get the most points you can.

I misread PIMAs response to my post. My original post was correct. My AFOQT pilot score was a 96, my PCSM score is a 66, and I have zero flight hours. I still think it's strange that someones det commander would say that the highest score you could get without flight hours is a 50.

Zero,

You can be the best in your unit, but at some point there is going to be a cusp line between two cadets.
IE. Two cadets both with the same ROTC positions. One has top 1/3rd and 1 has bottom 1/3. Their cgpa is basically the same, and neither have flight hours. Which one do you rank higher?
~ The one that scored higher nationally at SFT in their Max or the one lower?
~~ On other sites there has always been talk how the RSS aka CoC rec is politics. Additionally, many CoCs and staff will PCS over the summer, some are brand spanking new to their position. Golden child under the last CoC does not necessarily equate to golden child with this one.

I know I come off as the raincloud, but these Commanders are O5 and 6s. They know what a board is looking for....they know that in a ROTC world it is equivalent to DP, P and DNP. They can look at the numbers and work the system to get the most cadets a rated slot....because the cynic in me says the more they get selected the better their own OPR looks for their staff and unit. The flip side is no matter how hard they try it might not be pilot, but ABM aka a rated slot.
~ Again, I believe this year group also offered CSO and ABM.
~ Cadets can game it too. Place UPT only in ranking, from what I have read.

This board has had posters that didn't get UPT, but RPA and CSO. My guess is they got it because points were the issue, maybe for many just a difference of only one point.

There is nothing you can do now. Just sit tight, and if you are smart start researching FC1 physical and IFS.

Best of luck.

OBTW, jmpo, but nothing anyone says here matters. Nobody here has sat on a board and nobody knows the number AF is looking for regarding 2016 commissions. If I was a cadet I would ask the cadre if they know what the target pilot slot number is for HQ AFROTC. I would follow it up with how many are applying from your det. Than follow up with how many dets are in the nation. Final follow up would be per enatge of cadets that got SFT and signed the rated paperwork.
~If 2200 attended and 60% signed the rated paperwork, that means 1320 will apply rated just from ROTC. Add in @ 550 from AFA, and you are close to 1900 before OTS/OCS is added into the mix.
~~~ There is no way Big Blue could push through 2000+ officers via UPT in one fiscal year, maybe they can do it in two, but than that FC1 physical would be not valid.
In the end, it comes down to numbers. Somebody anyway you shake it is going to be left out in the cold.
Undfly,
I don't know the answer why there is such a disparity.
Zero,
The new system also changed the % for CoCs. It use to be much higher.
They also started the waiver process back in 2013 if you had a PPL. If you have a PPL you get to go pass GO and straight to UPT. Show your log book and BOOM you are waivedfor IFS.
The system changes constantly. DoD and the AF needs to save money, hence, impo, let's waive those with a PPL for IFS.
The AFOQT in 08 was given to all freshmen in ROTC. In 09 they stopped. It appears now they are going back to giving it to every 100/250.
Next year...who knows? Maybe the waiver for PPL will be pulled because most cadets that get a PPL never fly an airframe like the DOSS. Maybe they will have problems at UPT undoing what they were taught by civilian instructors.
The AF changes a lot. Crap,while Bullet was ADAF, the blues changed 3 Tims, the slogan too, and the flight suit changed three times also.
In my years here, I have seen specialty scholarships changed twice as much. There have been nursing, weather, CSO/ABM and now Missileer. Basically, every year there is a new one.
SFT went from 55% 6 Max to 55% 5 Max to 93% 6 Max to 58% 6 Max. All in a course of four years.
Just saying, Big Blue has tweaking/surgical striking down to a science when it comes to year groups.
I would also suggest that you read the USAFA thread for their drop this year. The thing is AFROTC has a perk over USAFA. AFROTC cades get their rated assignment @ late Feb. Junior year. USAFA gets it @Oct Senior year.
Cowskee,
You have a great cgpa, and perfect PFT. Top 10% CoC. You should be fine, I just don't see ENJPPT in your future.
~ No IP is going to give a sheaaatt at UPT what your PCSM score is....that give an arse a out how you do in the Sim and flying.
