Made it this far, the question is how further?

Hi all. It's getting to that time of year when we start getting antsy. I received my nomination, got an updated transcript sent in, and now I'm playing the waiting game. I have a couple questions, though.

1. Has anyone in Illinois revived an appointment yet? ( I'm sure someone has, but I'd like to hear from you!)

2. When should I expect to hear for the academy? When did you hear your status?

3. Does a congressionally nominated candidate take longer to hear back than someone with another nomination source?

4. Is there anything I could do to help the admissions staff with my file?

5. I was invited for a CVW last year, and was happy to go. Is it possible to go on another this year? (Slightly unrelated, but I loved mine!)

Thanks for your time!

Concerning #2

I got my TWE March 22nd my senior year. Still waiting to hear back this cycle.

Concerning #4

No. It's a waiting game. Really. "Hurry up and wait" is a common quote this time of year.

Concerning #5

I'm a college reapplicant and I was offered a CVW this cycle. I went on one my senior year. Did not go this year as it was not possible but also I'd already been on one (during the govt shutdown! :D) so I'm not sure why USNA offered me one. Oh well.

Concerning #2
Just putting it out there I got my TWE in early May, so there is quite a spectrum of when you can get one. Also, yes waiting is not fun.

2. When should I expect to hear for the academy? When did you hear your status?

I heard last year on March 14th. Seriously though, people have and will have heard by April 15th. My best friend heard on April 15th that he was wait listed. Either way, on April 15th you will know, so try not to stress about it.

Thanks for the help, guys. I've found out I'm in review as of this week, so we'll see!

Did your BGO, RD, or Admissions office let you know this? I have wondered for a while if DS's file has been looked at yet as it's been since it was complete early on in the process.

It was my RD, I was asking him some questions via email and he mentioned it to me today

Just keep in the back of your mind... even if you are being reviewed this week, doesn't mean that you will hear this week or next. It could be tomorrow or it could be April (or even later in a rare case). Your MOC could have given admissions an unranked slate, so admissions would need to review all applicants listed on the slate and rack and stack them. You could end up on the NWL and not know until the end of things. Or you could hear later this week or next. I know the wait is hard, but its the beginning of many, many waits to come in your military career. Just keep telling yourself, I haven't gotten the TWE, so I am still in this game! Good luck.

I am sure plenty have. Take a look at the appointed thread and I am sure there are some on there. Remember just because you see someone with your district mentioned, don't freak out. They could have a variety of Noms.

2. When should I expect to hear for the academy? When did you hear your status?

You could hear any day. Admissions puts April 15th I believe in the letter. If you look at the thread that is still alive from last year, you will see a few who even waited until June to hear. This is a rare, but it happens. Take a look at the appointed thread and you will see when those folks heard.

3. Does a congressionally nominated candidate take longer to hear back than someone with another nomination source?

Not necessarily. A million factors can play into this.

4. Is there anything I could do to help the admissions staff with my file?

No. Unless they ask for something specific like 7th semester grades, clarification on something, medical remedial, etc. If they ask for something specific provide it to them immediately.

5. I was invited for a CVW last year, and was happy to go. Is it possible to go on another this year? (Slightly unrelated, but I loved mine!)

Yes. Some folks on here mentioned they went to one Junior and Senior year. If you are trying to make up your mind and need to take another, ask. If you know you want to attend USNA and have your mind made up, then its really not an issue.

That's true, but it is exciting! They weren't kidding, the wait is killer

Good to only about the CVWs. I had so much fun I mine I'd love to go again, but I do know I want to got to USNA, so I guess it isn't necessary

I didn't receive a nomination, still waiting on the TWE. Would've expected it earlier, but one thing is for sure, it is coming!

I was informed about a month and a half ago that I was being reviewed, but have not heard anything since. I got my hopes up that the wait would soon be over but sadly it isn't yet!

Never hurts to apply for a VP nomination since it is so easy to do; BUT its importance is highly misunderstood.

The VP is no different than any member of Congress - In most years he has four appointees on the yard spread across the four classes of Mids with a maximum potential of five appointees on the yard spread over all four classes in any one given year.

There are literally thousands of candidates that go after his limited number of slots (1-2 a year); but in reality, from practical knowledge his typically one appointment in most given years goes to that one very exceptional candidate who somehow did not receive a nomination from any source - a candidate that the Academy absolutely wants and needs to find a nomination home for.

In effect, it's the longest of long shots!

Did you apply for VP nom?.......that is still a possibility....hang in there.
