Major at Other Academy

If we are basing this on branch it is navy all the way. Would much prefer academy life over nrotc though.

Either you or I are missing the point.

You want Navy which will be 5 yrs AD ALL THE WAY for 5 yrs.
However, when it comes to decisions, you place an academy life over ROTC even if it means serving in a branch that is not your choice.
~~~ Hence it really isn't NAVY all the way now is it?
If it was, than you would go NROTC.
Not trying to flame.
Your right, I just am having trouble convincing myself that its better to pass on the guaranteed academy and waste $40000 (I know its not wasted but bear with me) on a year of college in order to go again for a spot at the academy that's not guaranteed.
An NROTC scholarship will earn you a commission. Not following your logic.
Another alternative is AOCS.
Wow! $40K for a year of college. You certainly don't set your sights low. You seem to be an all or nothing kind of guy. It brings to mind some words my son's MOI once told him. "Go for the 70% solution when necessary". Of course it isn't necessary yet but it isn't even on your radar. I don't mean to be overly tough here, just hopefully planting seeds for a different way of thinking. Accomplish the mission, adapt and overcome. You need to figure out what the mission is.
Good luck! :thumb:
Always sound advice. Thanks for the words of wisdom!
jaceguy,
I said it earlier, many SA candidates will get not only an NROTC scholarship. but merit too from the university, in essence free or very low debt....not 160K owed.
Again just like the misinformation for reapplying as a USMA COW and 80% of AFA rated slots went RPA, you need to look deeper.
Than again we don't know your stats or college list for NROTC,
OBTW 5 yrs in any branch that is not my 1st choice to serve in would def. make me think long and hard even if it meant taking on debt.
~~~24/7 for 5 yrs is your life when you commission.
~ You could be posted at the worst station they have to offer.

Very true, I was fed more misinformation from one of my nominating sources, saying that since I have a competitive nom to afa and na I will only be looked at by the academy if something happened to dq a prin. I now know that I still will get looked at by the academies, it will just be after the prins are allotted for. SO THERE'S STILL HOPE :D. Plus in a last ditch effort I applied to the VP for a nomination this morning. Here's to hoping.
