Just received a text from DS stating CC is mandating the wearing of ASU's to class one day a week. Anybody else hearing this? Just curious what uniform do the AF and Navy/Marine cadets wear to class and how often?

Our DS had to wear his uniform at least one day a week. As a 100, it was his blues. As a 200 it was ABUs. 300 it was either depending on his POC position. 400 year it was a flight suit since he was selected for rated. I can't recall, but I think it was Tuesday or Thursday because that was the day he had LLAB. Hence at least once a week, maybe twice.

DS (NROTC Marine Option) has always had to wear a uniform one day per week. They wear the Navy khaki uniform.

    USMC,

Just curious, if they get a rated slot do they wear flight suits or khakis, but now with brown shoes?

DSs senior year he only wore his AF blues for inspection and parades, otherwise it was flight suit. It was comical prior to his commissioning because he had worn his blues so infrequently, maybe 2x in the year, that he called me and said Mom, can you mail me some of Dads frogs for my blues because I can't find any in my room!

Every Det./Battalion is different. We have class 2 days a week and have to wear Short Sleeve Blues the 1st two years, and then after FT we wear ABUs (or flight suits if you have a slot) as POC. NROTC here wears the tan uniform on LLAB days, occasionally they get to wear the Blueberries. Army just wears ACUs, though their newest commander started making them wear full service dress, which is what I assume you're referring to, at least once a week because he wanted them to look more professional. They didn't even have ranks or name tags on the undershirt so they couldn't take off the jacket and still be in regs. That lasted about a semester before they switched back to ACUs full time.

I thought this was already a rule in AROTC, both son's had to wear their uniform on Lab days once a week. I did hear from my son that they were going to be changing from ACU's to Class B uniforms.

Wait, do did you mean that they were going to be required to wear their ASU's? That would seem a bit formal for classes.

Yep I confirmed with DS ASU is the uniform of the day for AROTC cadets on Tuesday.

In Colorado its not going to be too bad... Walking to class in that uniform in Arizona or down south in the summer is going to be mighty uncomfortable for sure....

I agree with Non Ducor...it varies.

Our DS attended a school that they had to wear the full uniform come late fall because it was too cold to wear short sleeves. They were not given the short winter jacket. Thus, to keep warm they had to wear their service coat while they scurried across campus.

You are right sheriff... Colorado winters are different than Florida or the SW.

Pima: No - no uniform difference whether "rated" or not.

Non Ducor Duco: I agree it is unit by unit. My DS' first year, the Marines wore the cammies (MARPATS) a lot. New CO meant new uniform regs and the last 3 years it has been Khaki's for all NROTC members as summer uniform. In winter, they wear the Navy Service Dress Blue uniform.

The active duty Marine Corps designates MARPATS as a work uniform and it is only allowed on duty, on base. You can travel in car but can't get out for gas, shopping, etc. These regs also change over time.

DS's NROTC unit wears their service uniform or summer whites most often. If they're heading to the field during Lab that day, they wear their utilities. It's always been 1 day a week, when they have lab. BTW - is there any uniform better than those summer whites? DS is always overhearing "He's hot!" while walking across campus in it.

    USMC,

Your last post made me LOL!

I remember when Bullet entered you would never see a member off base pumping gas or running into Lowes to pick up a bolt after work.
~ It was insanely frowned upon.

    Not so anymore.

    Kinnem,

Yes there is....it is called the Mess Dress!

Not to mention the wear and tear on those jackets, they're not cheap.

Pima, I could be dating myself. Last I heard, Marines couldn't wear the cammies off base. But as I said, uniforms AND regulations change over time.

kinnem: maybe it is nothing more than that So Carolina temperature?

Kinnem: my son's unit doesn't wear the whites. DS said the Navy options usually wear it on summer cruises but not during the school year.

Evidence, once again, that every unit does something slightly different.

Hands down the best looking uniform out there is the USMC dress blues... cost me a whole months pay back in the day but it was soooo worth it!:shake:

^^^I have to agree with this whole heartily. Have to admit, there are few things hotter than a good looking guy in USMC dress blues . My dad always looked so sharp in those, it would be cool of the female uniforms resembled the male ones more closely.
