Is it true that my file will not be reviewed until after my CWV ? That isn't until the last week in March!! Any advice welcome

I don't believe that to be true, they are mutually exclusive. Where did you hear that?

I guess from a source that is not too knowledgable. I have wondered as there has been no action on my file at least on the portal :frown:

To the best of my knowledge, there is no association between timing of review by the Board and CVWs. If anything, CVWs are offered AFTER your review because that's when USNA knows if you're a well qualified candidate.

CVWs exist primarily for the benefit of candidates. Some have said that there are write-ups done by your host, others have said this doesn't happen. It may change from year to year. Regardless, unless you spend the entire WE telling everyone how much you DON'T want to come to USNA or other otherwise totally socially inept, any review of your WE is unlikely to make much difference.

My DS visited at the end of February and his Plebe did say he was required to do a writeup.

Are CVW a mandatory part of the process?? my son received an invite sometime back in Sept. Or Oct., having just been at summer session at USNA the previous June and the fact that we live in CA, we decided not to go to it. Was this a mistake that could have hurt his chances of an appointment?

As USNA1985 stated, it’s mostly for the candidates – it gives them an excellent idea of what day to day life at the academy is like as they shadow their Plebes for a few days. While I don’t think it could hurt you at all by not going – if you had a fantastic weekend and your Plebe wrote a good report about you, it certainly would not hurt.

Not attending CVW doesn't hurt you in the admissions process. Not attending could cause you to make the wrong decision about attending.

If you can financially afford to do it, you should. If you can't financially afford to, don't worry about it. Look to other means to learn about USNA before making your decision.
