March-how important?

So by my calculations, if 235 appointments were awarded under EA and 14 more were awarded (so far) under RA......

.....that means that ~150 more appointments (and ~30% of those 150 are CGA scholars) will be awarded under RA, given that the historical acceptance rate is ~71%, and the Class of 2013 will be set at 275 swabs.

Luigi, I am hoping for a few more that 150 judging by data in the USCGA website (every little bit counts I know you said ~150 but I like bigger numbers like: 163 more which would make the same number of appts as 2012...I know, I know, clutching at straws...It will be what it will be!):

Class of 2012

2,806 applicants
412 appointments offered
295 Cadets sworn in

Here's hoping for a few more appointments to USCGA 2013 and for the CGA scholars appointments to be a separate number :)
Have a great day of mailman stalking to 14 people!!! (Hey, how many USCGA candidates are on this forum??? 14??? maybe it is you guys!!! How do you like the wishful thinking?)

Larry Mullen: DoDMERB

(Younger and Better Looking) Objee: USCGA

Our acceptance rate is actually a little higher than normal for the first week in March...the Class(es) of 2012/11/10 each had less than 40 Accepts at this point in 2008/07/06. Our EA is completely non-binding, so all appointees (whether EA or RA) have until May 1st to accept or decline.

Aha! thanks for the info...now I understand this "fan club" stuff:smile: and I will add that all this feedback is very helpful and informative, even if a bit heart-sinking at times (actually don't know what to think, other than it's way more competitive than I ever imagined)...Considering your DodMerb connection--if we suspect DodMerb could flag a condition, thus creating a "conditional" appmt (if there is an apmt), is there any benefit to providing info now to the CGA that would almost certainly result in a waiver? The medical system at my end was so slow that Dodmerb is just receiving records now, and I am just weighing the options in order to be proactive and cut wait/turnaround times? suggestions?

Yes, 2012 had 295 (292 from USA and 3 International) but 2013 will not have that many - I believe the number for 2013 was set at 275.

I think you are still a little confused. Objee is an Admissions Officer at the USCGA in New London.

Objee has no connection to DODMERB, that would be Larry Mullen (Deputy Director).

If you are having ANY DODMERB issues, contact Larry Mullen at once! Check the DODMERB forum here to contact him.

If you have a conditional appointment to USCGA, you must be given a waiver or have the DQ removed before a full appointment can be awarded. Yes, the process can take time, but if you have info that can remove it (called a rebuttal) or speed up the waiver (additional tests or records) than PLEASE contact Larry Mullen for help.

Yep..was confused...thanks for clarifying and good direction...I'll figure all this out one of these days:smile:

The good news is we are planning on 290 U.S. Cadets (and up to 8 International Cadets) for 2013.

The bad news is CGAS (~45) is included in that number, so Luigi's figures are probably a good estimate.

Sorry for the confusion...I guess this is why College Board dropped analogy questions from the SAT exam in 2005.

All medical information, even if it's being submitted as part of (or in anticipation of) a medical waiver request, should only be sent to DoDMERB. They are the keepers of all things medical and each Academy has remote access to an applicant's DoDMERB medical record. Sending medical records or exam results directly to us, instead of DoDMERB, will actually slow the process since we'll just forward it to DoDMERB for inclusion in the applicant's medical record.

:frown:More would have been better, but here's hoping :thumb:

yeah CGAS! Wondering when they will get their appointments too?! My DD is one of those this year & she thought, ?maybe? next week??? And, only 45? I know 60 were initially enrolled in CGAS last year and haven't heard of too many drop outs. I've gotten to know many of them this past year & I'm hoping most of them (my D included) will be together at USCGA this summer!

Hang in there!!

It's all gonna be OK! Hang in there and keep that hope alive. The waiting, for most, is almost over and I am sure MANY on this board will get good news. Some, of course, will not. I feel for that group because we were in it last year, and may be again this year.

Here's hoping that the 14 appts. are from our lovely little group here, but if not, they ARE coming. :thumb:

Ok...putting down my pom poms to continue to bite my nails and worry along with the rest of ya!

Have a great day.

Oh no, don't say that, that would make him hold off on the appointments for those on the forum so he could keep us asking questions!!!! JK

ok, I just have to chime in on this one! It's true, who would Objee have to talk to! And, anyone know when those beautiful 14 appointments left New London?
