Just curious, has anyone else on the board been selected to attend the George C. Marshall conference this semester?

Has anyone on the board been in the past?

I'll be there

My Dd says she was told she was the nominee for this year. Is it in Leavenworth this year. How was it last year?

DS is going. He's interested to see Ft. Leavenworth, but was equally looking forward to visiting VMI. Hopefully it will be worthwhile, as it overlaps his battalion's spring FTX.

The conference is in Lexington, VA each year. I did not end up going to the conference last year because USACC decided to send only half of the award recipients to the conference due to budget constraints. I still was recognized for relieving the award and the Marshall foundation sent me all of the things presented to award winners (framed certificate and coin, books, etc.).

Here's a link to the seminar's website that has a lot of info: http://www.marshallarmyrotc.org

If your DD does end up being selected as the award recipient (which she should as the nominee), than a very big congrats to her! The Marshall Award is the most prestigious award one can receive in ROTC and only 1 is awarded per host unit (including all of their satellites) each year. A very big testament to her achievements and the potential in her recognized by the cadre.

I had a few friends from LDAC that also received the award and went to the conference last year and had a great time. She'll get to meet a number of Flag officers and other senior officers and sit in on some excellent panels and discussions. I believe even Army Chief of Staff GEN Odierno was there last year and met with each of the cadets.

Definitely something to be extremely proud of her for! If you have specific questions about the trip, I can pass them along to a few that have been and get you answers.

Edit: I guess maybe it has moved to Leavenworth.

Congratulations to your son! A very big honor! I promise it will be much better than an FTX

I just found out I got nominated! I'm so excited and feel very blessed. So does being your program's nominee mean you definitely go? If not, how competitive is it/how do they decide/how many go? Thanks!!

I don't know anyone who was nominated and not selected. The Marshall Foundation essentially puts the entire selection process in your PMS's hands and they trust their judgement. Congratulations! It's quite an honor

As far as going to the actual conference, that's up to USACC. Last year, I believe a little more than half went to the conference.
