Mass Appointments

I think LY the mass mailing was around Mar 15th, then dribs and drabs came out until the 1st of April. From there some more were offered appointments through May. Remember several candidates applied to multiple SAs and when they decline a new vacancy is opened. I recall a mid being offered his appointment July 1st...the night before!

Don't give up until the class of 2013 arrives at each SA!

Is it possible that any of you high school seniors did not apply to any place else besides AFA? Do you have a second choice college? Of course, you'll never have to even think of going there, but it is always a curiosity to me. As a back up, my kids chose the college with the cheapest deposit - none.

Tom Petty was right -

told by a couple folks today with some insight that next week was when they'd be mailing, rather than this week.

So, more waiting, but thought folks would rather know than not know about it. (besides, if wrong, most would be happier).

So, does that mean we might receive them next weekend? Or maybe the beginning to middle of next week?

I ended up applying to like 6 NE colleges and so far I got accepted to 4...the other two keep sending me e-mails and snail mails to send them missing things but my ambitions for that are so low that I have yet to reply haha...

so even though my status just changed online to "appointment offered" i shouldn't expect the mail until sometime next week?

you ALWAYS need a backup... no matter what.. if you get injured and cant go to a service academy, you're gonna be late applying to a regular college... i recommend everyone applying to a service academy to apply to more than one, on top of applying for as may rotc scholarships as you can, and at least a few colleges... now the only choices i have to make is... where do i want to go?

You probably have to wait quite a while (or so it seems). I had my LOA since Nov, got a nom in Jan, and the appt wasn't offered until Feb. And it still took a couple of weeks after it was "offered" until it showed up at my mailbox. I accepted the offer almost immediately, but it wasn't until the 1st or 2nd of Mar that I got my "Instructions". So all in all, I first found out that I'd be attending the Academy in Nov, then almost five months later, I finally have the opportunity to begin filling out paperwork for the Academy.

Besides USAFA, I also applied to University of Washington (AFROTC detachment ranked extremely high), and Texas A&M. Was accepted to both.

I would be one of those seniors who you're speaking of. I sent the online App portion to the U of MN Twin Cities, but never followed up with a transcript or application fee. That was the only college I even semi-applied to besides USAFA. I actually didn't even apply for ROTC. Of course I had a theoretical back up plan, if I wasn't accepted (thank goodness I did), it would either be me paying for college for a year, or I would just plain enlist and re-apply next year. Right now my family in 3 generations has 144 years of enlisted service in the AirNG, it's only been this year my cousin (upper teens in years of service) decided to go to OCS so enlisted life would be almost normal for me.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING WHAT I DID FOR ANYONE!!!!! I really put all my eggs in one basket and got extremely lucky. Make sure when you apply to also apply to other colleges and for all scholarships that you can (especially cash ones!). There is no guarantee you'll be as stupidly lucky as me.

Not to scare you, but don't get hurt/in big trouble with the law between now and I-Day.

My son applied to the air force academy as his only military academy. He also applied to 5 universities. The academy came through, and he obviously took that. But he definitely had backups in case. later... mike....

Timeframe update again

MOC staffer called Friday with THE good news for kid.

Looks like next week is the mass mailing, so far as the staffer knew.

Status of kid has not changed on website.

Hope this helps those of you who are still waiting. All the best to the candidates in this humbling and incredible experience.
