Matriculation Day

Hi.

Q. What is the name of the song played by the bagpipers on Matriculation Day when the new rats walk out?

Thanks,
Murf

BTW- if you go to the link above- The Rat class that is the subject of this 2004 NPR story is the class of 2009- the class of our very own RahVAMil2009:thumb:
RahVa: does this seem like it took place about a century ago?
The weirdest part is realizing that when I go to the parade next year (I live 20 mins from New Market), I'll be getting someone to take a three generation pic of my rat, her rat and me.

For the four years I was there, they played "Shenandoah." It's possible that they've changed it by now, but I hope they haven't... in many ways, "Shenandoah" is more our school song than is "The Spirit".

Thanks, but I don't believe it was "Shenandoah" - seemed to have a bit more of an Irish or Scottish flair to it? Could be wrong though ...

Was it "The Rowan Tree"?

Dear HMQ:

From the best that I can tell, I believe it was "The Rowan Tree". If someone else knows with certainty, I would appreciate confirmation on this. Thank you very much!

Rowan Tree is a pretty standard part of the VMI pipe band line up, so that's probably the one.
