medical turnback

Am I missing something here why people are assuming it has been decided she is not a turnback?

Bob,

It sounds to me she is a turnback and it is officially over for her this yr. since they are flying home this week. If they were to keep her, I don't think they would send her home. If I recall correctly the standard is 8 days of missing BCT before they call the ball. The only reason that number sticks in my mind was due to the fact a few yrs ago when the H1N1 became a problem at the AFA, due to the amount of cadets that were sick there was talk they would extend that number out, instead of turning back lots of kids due to the reg.

I think he is refering to a different female cadet.

she is a medical turnback the med staff determined that she wouldn't be able to perform at Jacks. It will give her another year to hone the academics and get physically stronger for swimming. Kind of like a red shirt freshman. The good thing is she will be able to go into squad 39 after freshman year since DS will be graduating in 2014. Every cloud has a silver lining:rolleyes:

Thanks Packer.

Texas, yes, everything has a silver lining.

Texasrocks, Thanks for the update. I am glad she's improving and I'm hopeful she'll have a complete recovery. Best wishes! And please drop in this forum from time to time to let us know how she is doing.

Texasrocks - another thanks for the update! I know I didn't comment but remember you from back when our kids were applying (maybe even for summer seminar?) for 2014. I've been checking this thread frequently to see what the outcome was. Is she home now? Please know that she's in all of our thoughts and prayers!

Very intuitive Packer...yes it is someone else, not the DD of Texas Rocks. Saw her again today on crutches watching the action. It has been way past eight days since she first appeared on crutches in the pix. My DD said she was supposed to be a turnback but she is still there. That aside, my DD was warned prior to induction not to take advantage of the opportunity to take a day or two off with a medical problem, that it was looked down upon by the rest of the squadron. I am sure that they will figure it out on their own. You know that they are all just exhausted...right in the middle of the whole ordeal with new cadres, must be the lowest point of the process. Sorry, just can't turn off the Dad in me.

LOL Bob, You don't ever learn how to turn it off, but you do learn how to turn it down ;) Keep up with the keeping up,,Go Air Force, Go Falcons.

Curiosity, and I know we are diverting the thread, but is this girl a recruited athlete?

I don't want to poke the stick at the bear, but that is the only reason I can understand why she is still there.

I am just curious how she is still there. Maybe she is like raimius. The pics you see are just glimpses, and it maybe that when she is off her crutches that allows her to remain.

Don't apologize for being a Dad. Just understand that she is now in the world, we as adults, endure everyday trying to figure out how So and So got away with something and the other SO and SO didn't when we saw it as being equal. We just were not privy to see the reasons behind it!

Adding to the curiosity, is this girl in Cobras? I have seen a girl in photos since day 2 on crutches in the Cobra section.

Question,

They told my daughter to book a flight home when she got her medical and to submit the receipt and she would be reimbursed. I asked her to follow up to see if it had been processed and she said the "people" she talked to said it is not reimbursed.

Does anyone know what the protocol is do you get reimbursed or not or is she talking to the wrong people

TexasRocks-
I don't know the answer to your question, but I wanted to check how your daughter is doing? I am hopeful that she is progressing and improving. She certainly has the thoughts and prayers of many here.

She is doing better, back in the pool swimming and taking some classes - told her to try arabic to see if she liked it. She was depressed for a little bit but seems to be picking up in spirit. Still having a few medical complications but working through it.

thanks for your prayers

Thanks for the update. I am glad that she is doing better. Praying for a full recovery and a return to USAFA in 2013.

Don't mean to pry but just curious. Is she fully recovered? Is your DS going back as class of 2017?

Unfortunately not, she had some minor complications that are not too serious but they are disqualifying. She will be attending a civilian school on a full tuition swimming scholarship. She is disappointed, but everything happens for a reason. At least she can watch her brother graduate in 2014.

I'm sorry things turned out this way, and wish your daughter the best in her new pursuits! I was cadre for another flight in her BCT squadron and remember her.

Thank you for the update. I can't begin to imagine how tough it must have been to go through but it sounds like your DD is resilient. We prayed for her recovery. I am glad that she's regained her health and swimming form. Good luck to both your DS and DD.
