I was talking to someone who graduated USNA c/o 1990 and he said that he meet with the people on the nomination board individually prior to his interview. Anyone ever heard of doing this and does anyone recommend doing this?

I think this would be very dependent on many things. 1, if they release the name of the board ahead of time. 2, if those members would be willing to sit down with you. I have sat on a MOC more than once. If a candidate asked to meet with me ahead of time, I honestly would decline. I would note it as a positive (depending on the interaction) for their interview and go from there.

Never heard of anyone on here saying they have ever met with such individuals ahead of the real interview. Typically, MOC interview boards are comprised of several people not directly associated with the MOC, so you may not even know who they are until you arrive for your interview. When interview boards are used, they typically meet with all candidates on a certain day.

As mentioned above, I would expect the interview panel to decline efforts by candidates to meet individually ahead of time with the idea of somehow increasing their chances for a NOM.

I sat on boards for nine years; and I would NEVER have met with a potential candidate prior to that except by accident. There's no value there and it could potentially bias me and that's a BIG no-no!!
