Hey guys. I was just wondering, if I go to the academy, will I be able to meet Superintendent Miller? Or is his office not open to the public?

Not sure what you are asking. If you mean would you be able to schedule a one-on-one meeting with him during a CVW or other campus visit, it seems pretty unlikely.

If you attend USNA, at one or more points in your career your would probably have the chance to meet the Supe. There are periodic "Supe's Calls" and "Dant's Calls" where either the Supe (Superintendent) or the Dant (Commandant) meets with small groups of Mids. Midshipman officers (Firsties) and club officers also have opportunities to meet with the most senior officers.

Can't speak for the current Dant, but at least with then-CAPT Klunder, almost every Mid saw him on a very frequent basis. He made it a point to come out as often as possible to join in on morning "PEP" during Plebe summer, among other things. He really set an outstanding example of leadership!

Generally seeing the Supe (or Dant) means bad things.

Supe's/Dant's calls are for the entire Brigade, so there isn't really a lot of direct interaction. CAPT Clark has had a couple Battalion level briefs to dispel rumors and I've personally run into him and talked to him one on one before, but he's much less visible to the average mid than CAPT (RADM!!!) Klunder.

The Supe's office and home are closed to the public.

Conversely, in the coincidental event that you should see Supt. Miller in Dahlgren snack bar or on the Yard, he is highly approachable and seemingly quite genuine. In glaring contrast to his predecessor, Supt. Miller regularly worships his God at Sunday a.m. services @ the Chapel, and when the Peacepipe is passed, the Chief greets all in any proximity, warmly and graciously. If you see him, introduce yourself. He puts his pants on just like you and was not long ago, a USNA Plebe! Honest! And should you connect, he'd lend assurance that you are the very person he'd not yet met and hoped to do so enroute to his destination. This is a man, if he has an political aspirations, might make a heckuva run for President, and be duly elected and embraced. :thumb:

Agreed! After my daughter met Supt. Miller, they slipped each other challenge coins and he was surprised because he never expected to receive a challenge coin from a Sea Cadet Chief. Supt. Miller gave the impression he wanted the best for my daughter and gave her a few pointers about the board, and his overwhelming support for her NAPS acceptance. He also fielded questions from Midshipmen Candidates with the articulation of Abe Lincoln. He would surely get my vote. :thumb:

One minor point . . . the Superintendent is addressed as "Admiral Miller." He's a Vice Admiral but, when speaking to him, he would be addressed simply as "Admiral." Military officers, unlike college deans or professors, are addressed by rank rather than title. Just in case you do meet him.
