Does anyone know the percentage of the test that you must pass in order to get a waiver for asthma for the AFA? I was told that you had to test 80%. Anything under 80% meant you tested positive for asthma. Is this the guideline that is used for the waiver dept? We already know that the candidate has a history of asthma, otherwise they would not be required to do the methacholine challenge. Right? Thanks for any information.

There cannot be more than a 20% decrease in lung function from the initial airways test to the methcholine portion.
I passed this test, and was requested another remedial asthma test. I took this test without it being requested (because I read it was the test I needed to take).

Asthma

Did you get the waiver? Does anybody get a waiver for Asthma for Navy? My DS had childhood asthma listed on record and was DQ, sent remedial, never heard another thing until received TWE from AFA. He still has not heard from Navy one way or the other. Praying!:frown:

waiver granted

my daughter just got her waiver approved for asthma. she's going to usma. she had her physical march 1 and we got the remedial the following week and sent in records on march 23rd. we got the letter stating she was dq'ed by dodmerb on march 27th. we just found out today the waiver has been approved. so there's still hope. good luck to you.:thumb:

See my posting re methacholine challenge in above posting re Minor Exercise Induced Asthma. Might come in handy for someone who flunks the challenge test first time around.

does anyone know if i passed if my results say PC20 FEV1: 14.3
Is that passing?

I took this test as a competitive applicant for USAFA a few years ago (I would have been class of 2014, this was when I was in high school, spring of 2009). I was told I needed a score of 85% and scored in the mid-90's on all my readings even at the max dosage. Still denied the waiver which I didn't understand.

Good news was I received one from AFROTC and activated scholarship there no problem. I recieved my AFROTC DQ and two days later after they looked in my file at the remedial, received a waiver for that and a mental health waiver. Knowledge and openness are your friend if you are at the remedial stage. They know. So tell it all and explain a lot.
