As long as your SAT scores are good, you would have a shot at all 4

Also I can't speak for the other SMC on how hard it is to get in but for Norwich I had
3.0 GPA. 560 Reading, 680 Math. Recreation Hockey and a lot of Vol. Work

You didn't say which branch of service you were interested in. If you are seeking a commission in the Army, why not explore the Early Commissioning Program (ECP) and expand your list of military colleges? You could go to a military junior college, graduate, and get a commission. Then transfer to a 4-year military college and complete your degree. During the time at the second college you are picking up time in grade and time in service points. Those add up to a bigger paycheck when you go on active duty. Just a thought.

That depends on what you want to do once you join. You will need different skills if you want to fly an Apache, an F-22, be a SEAL, PJ, or Engineering. I think you get the idea.

I would recommend looking at the websites for the different branches (and see if they have the career you are interested in):tank:

xch1s: Hope you're still out there. Sorry about the late reply.

The technical skills you need will be taught to you by the service. There is some leeway based on you medical qualifications (e.g. - pilot), major in college (e.g. - engineer), personal preferance, etc. The important thing to understand is that all officers, regardless of branch, practice the skill of LEADERSHIP to accomplish their unit's mission. This is one thing that binds us together; no matter the color of our uniform. The more you can make yourself into a better LEADER, the more valuable you will be to your branch of service.

I can pretty much guarantee you could get into NGCSU. Now VMI, that's a little more competitive, but it's not out of reach. Although with those scores they will pretty much tell you they won't offer you a scholarship.

Don't discount the possibility of a 3 or 2 year scholarship. I was someone with scores much lower than your's. But I worked hard at Norwich and earned a 3-year scholarship.

NMMI Prep Director makes a good point. My advice is to apply to ALL of them and see who wants you. Once you have offers, then you can decide which is better.

Also apply for 4-year scholarships and the Service Academies. If you really want a Service Academy, you can now and re-apply next year with higher college grades. SAs look favorably on folks who are re-applying once they are in college.

Just knock on as many doors as you can. Preferrably, more than one will open the door for you. You then get to decide which door to enter. Once you go through that door, don't EVER look back.

Without seeing the rest of your record- I would say that you have a reasonable chance based on those two pieces of information.
