I can just imagine the sadness at Army bases around the world as innocent soldiers suddenly have to say goodbye to this almost foolproof optometric birth control device. Fortunately- we retirees are protected from this sudden onset of sexiness.

Big glasses like BCG's are pretty popular right now. Maybe they're changing it to make a fashion statement.

Trust me- as the proud owner of a couple of pairs (they changed to brown in the 80's to be more "stylish"), These were never in style:

Thank God I got married before I needed them full time!

DS wears the "new look" with pride now. He opted for them over contact lenses!!

In the USAF, if your duties had you outside most of the time, you could get the "sunglass" version of the BCG's. These actually looked pretty good.

The worst "milspec" eyewear ever designed were the gasmask (M1A I believe; the ones before the "Micky 2's") inserts with the metal prongs. If they popped out on one side when you were wearing the mask you had two sharp metal prongs a millimeter or so from your eyeball.

Add another item to the list of things old vets can talk about when the conversation begins with, "Remember when.....................?"

Does this apply to all SAs? USMA, USNA, USAFA, USCGA, USMMA? Or is it focused solely on USNA?

    Yup

At a minimum I know the Air Force is saying bye to BCG's too. I like to wear mine on missions (So people know I'm serious! ha ha), and a pilot told me they weren't being issued anymore. A sad day indeed....at least I can still rock my pair though!
