I personally kind of cringe. Unless they are humorous. Then I lol.

It’s the world we live in now. Curious what other people think.

I agree with you. There are a couple I follow on Instagram and they are hilarious, but some are strange. I do think the role of influencers is interesting and I've been pretty slow to recognize it.

There are a few that are funny. Most are cringe. There is an Army guy I think who does a good job of balancing humor and educating. He was prior enlisted and then Commissioned. I think he does a solid job of explaining different education and commissioning programs when he receives questions. A lot of young soldiers don’t know where to start or even don’t get support from chain of commands in stuff like this. It’s good they have a place to ask and the answers help many, not just one (sort of like on here when we think it might be a troll… the answer isn’t for them then, it’s for the lurkers). There is a Navy LT who I sometimes cringe at, but think she does a good job of showing what being a Naval Officer is like while also discussing what it’s like to be a female officer in the Navy and balancing being a wife too.

I wonder if

what is super cringe to me is when they are at an SA. There is one I happened upon recently, and I think she actually does a disservice to women’s issues and climate. Idk. Boarders on inappropriate to me. But free speech and all?

I also follow a Navy female influencer. She attended USNA. Not my cup of tea by she does a good job, like you mentioned. I just wonder how they are received in the fleet. They sure receive some amazing perks. And she is professional.

Additionally, I follow a male one that recently retired. He seems awesome. Focuses on leadership. He okay, I’d work for him!

I guess it’s good recruiting? It’s how the present generation connects? Influencer are happenstance. Organic. There is a reason they have so many followers.

The problem is there are so many bad ones. So to find the good, is tough. I just think the bad out weigh the good. But maybe that will change one day. Let’s be honest, it’s not how our generation communicates. The generation looking to serve or currently serving (not the senior officers, yet) it’s how they consume news, connect and communicate. So if it works for them, hopefully they find the good.

I tend to follow personal financial-related sites on Twitter, such as Doug Nordman at @TheMilitaryGuid (he's retired Navy and blogs and gives talks on retiring from the military without debt and navigating the military retirement program - he helped my young Lts set up their TSP, Rotch, etc. contributions) and also this account from an AD guy: @Military_Dollar
