    Hello
I know there is a range but I was wondering what the average minimum for ACT/ GPA is in order to get a scholarship.

The actual minimums, excluding gpa, are:
But I think the intent of your question is what are the real minimums for those awarded scholarships. I can give you two different answers. 1. No one knows as this is internal information which is seldom seen by outsiders. 2. I did get a glance once and the actual average stats I saw for (sideload) scholarships that year were comparable and perhaps a bit higher than those for the Naval Academy.

Thank you. I did not realize that it was equal or higher than the academy. About how long ago were those stats you saw?
Does everyone have to take the Armed Forces Qualification Test if they have taken the ACT?
My son has a 27 composite on the ACT but only a 3.5 GPA. He does play 3 sports and is captain of one.

Marjasse: As long as your son meets the minimum requirements posted (he does), he shouldn't hesitate to apply for the scholarship. There have probably been scholarships awarded to people with lower stats than your DS. The board is going to consider grades, test scores, leadership, interview, physical fitness test, and the application.

If your son is a senior he needs to get going ASAP. If a junior, the application will open next spring.

Agree with USMCGrunt. His ACT scores are good enough. He only needs Sat, ACT, OR AFQT. I expect his athletics and leadership will go a long way with the Marines.

thank you for answering. It is true we need to get on it, we have had so many college applications. He is almost done with the application. He is calling them tomorrow to make an apppt. to have them look at it. We live in Austin, TX but think we have to go to San Antonio, Texas. I am also hoping that the Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy in Quantico will help

That's fairly new and I'm only familiar with it through brochures but it seemed to be an awesome program.

Marjasse: unless they have changed the program, the USMC Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy is only for rising juniors and seniors.

That is great to hear. It sure looks like a good program.

Sorry that I misinterpreted your previous note. Was just trying to help.

Good luck with the application process. Let us know if you have any other questions.

No problem at all. I have learned so much from all the advice that we have been given. Will keep you posted. I know his is a long shot because 4 out of 5 are out of state public schools but we will see.
