Misc. questions

You want your socks to be "motivated".....aka, pulled all the way up.

A few more questions

1. Can we keep our old checking accounts still, and will we be able to withdraw from them?

2. Sports equipment. Should we bring anything if we're interested in a particular sport? i.e. goggles for swimming?

3. I heard a rumor on the Facebook group that we are getting MacBook Pros. Is this true?

Thanks guys :thumb:

Sam (cool avatar),

Son contacted swim coach about bringing speedo and goggles, and was told to pack them up with his name on the outside package and to have mom and dad drop them in coaches office on R-day.

Yes, MacBook Pros are in order I'm almost certain, but call admissions for a definitive answer.

We are probably going to have son's current bank account closed and send everything to CGA. -officer

Don't forget musical instruments: Last year our 2013 Swab brought her trumpet and another brought BAGPIPES! It was really great to see the Regimental Band march onto the field led by the Swab piper with supporting drum beat during Mystic Flag and Parents Weekend. There will be a special drop off for musical instruments at the arch outside Chase Hall supervised by the band director.

We need more bag pipers!

Sandhurst Competition?

This looks really cool- how competitive is it to get on the squad?

If you already have an NFCU account you just keep that one; bring your checking and savings account numbers with you.
You can always keep any other bank account, but your CG paycheck will be deposited into NFCU.
Have also heard that 2014 will receive MacBook Pros.
Oldest daughter did bring her own personal swim goggles; they're small enough to pack and you will have the opportunity to meet with teams on Wednesday afternoons (if the schedule is the same as it has been in past years during SS).

.

Our daughter kept her old credit union account back home (we are members also). She was able to electronically link from home credit union account to NFCU account (academy). Made it a lot easier for us to transfer money to her. I just transferred to her local credit union account, she moved it to NFCU account.

NFCU is very easy to work with. The other bank that cadets may eventually use is USAA. Our daughter took the start up loan her 2/c year and they HAD to have a USAA account.
Both are very easy to access, especially when out on patrol :thumb:

I dropped NFCU as soon as I could, as they recognize Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force, and EVEN DOD civilians, but not Coast Guard.

I took my business elsewhere.

^^^
how do they not recognize CG?

They never mention the USCG in ANY of the advertising, nor on their web site header.

I agree with LITS - all CG personnel should dump NCFU as soon as possible and go with USAA.

With the exception of CGA and I believe one other station....NFCU is not available to Coast Guardsmen. They don't advertise the Coast Guard because they, on a large scale, do not accept them.

A quick question:

Where are the items permitted throughout the academic year but not during swab training (like headphones, ipods, cell phones and the respective chargers) kept during swab summer? And will we have access to them for when we are on EAGLE (b/c it's my understanding that they are permitted during the time on EAGLE)?

^^^
Ultimately depends on the cadre and the rules for Swabs during Summer training and the rules set for 4/c during the school year.
They will let you know once you report in.

The cadre for your company will secure items like cell phones until you ship out for Eagle.

Most cadre will even make sure all cell phones are charged up for their swabs.

Very good. So is it recommended that we bring those kinds of items on RDay or would it be better for out parents to send them in a package a little later?

What to bring, when

I would send them later....if possible charged up before they go on Eagle.

One of the things they are trying to teach the cadets/swabs/parents (and us parents are often the hardest to teach :shake:) is that if they list what they want you to bring to R-day, bring those items, and nothing else. It's kind of like their/our first test...can they/we follow instructions!
