Anyone else on this forum attending the Hartzler reception this Saturday (7 May)?

DD, DH and I will be there.

I was there standing in for my DD who was at district track. DD is applying to the Class of 2021. Thought there would have been more in attendance.

We were there for DD's recognition to the USAFA Class of 2020.

I think the "low" attendance for the information session may have been due to several things: 1) new format/having it in conjunction with the appointee recognition ceremony, 2) time of year, since many high school students in the area are preparing for the end of the school year, 3) location - not the largest "city" in the area.

I'm not sure how the information was published. We did not know there would be a service academy information session after the recognition ceremony until we were there.

Congratulation to your DD! We just thought it was a service academy information session..had no idea it was a recognition ceremony. It was nice to hear from the appointees and their tips for the application process. Our heads are spinning!! DD goes to Summer Seminar next month...very excited for that.
Again, a big Congrats to your daughter!! What an accomplishment!!

Thank you. She is so excited, and the excitement keeps growing as she is in constant contact with dozens of other appointees via their Facebook pages and group chats.

If your DD continues to pursue the academy, your head will keep spinning

It is a lot of work and paperwork, but well worth it.

I'm sure my DD would be glad to speak with your DD, if she wants more information from a new appointee's perspective.
If so, let me know, and we can PM with contact information for the two of them.

BTW...For our DD, the summer seminar made her even more determined to gain an appointment to USAFA.

That would be great to have our DD's chat! I'm sure after summer seminar my DD will have tons of questions..and me too for that matter. I'm trying to be the secretary to all of this paperwork!!

To which summer seminar is your DD going?

We'll be headed out to the Springs on 25 June, so hopefully, your DD will be back by then so the two can chat.

June 12-17 and then she is attending a track sports camp June 19-24. She flies home on the 24th.

It will be tight, but maybe they can chat between camps or once we're on the road.

Bringing back an old thread here, but I have a dress code question for Service Academy Days. We will be attending the one in CoMo next weekend April 21. Is this formal? Business Casual? One of those deals where we don't want to be either over nor under dressed.

The ones we attended in PA... at a Catholic school seemed most boys were in suits but think that was their school suggesting. At another regular high school DS wore polo and khakis and was appropriate... parents don’t matter.... kids are making the impression. Seen girls in all range, boys too. It is more than anything an info session.

Parents and family were business casual or a bit more; appointees were in dresses, nice pant suits for females, slacks with button up shirts as well as suits for males

Be careful of Facebook and other sites. Detailers do search. DD met a person at the visitor's center before I-Day who she recognized from all her prior postings as she was so great. She was gone in two weeks of Plebe Summer. Stay quiet and work hard. Good Luck. Business Casual is all good and also with the Interview process ( just jacket and tie). If you are bringing the food, drink, plates, knives and forks to the Parent's Club meet and greet after appointment go casual it gets hot going up all those stairs for old guys.
